FK 425...hmm

Setec Astronomy- How old is your FK 425? Mine's holding up well and I suspect my shop's storage closet gets pretty warm. Some of my older QDs are getting a little "iffy" after sitting around for years...

I bought it when the craze started a few months ago. I had poured some into a pint spray bottle, if that makes any difference (now that I think about it...my gallon was partially frozen when I got it). I think it's just that my slickometer is out of calibration--I did some UPP the other night and it didn't really feel that slick to me either. It's probably because these surfaces haven't been prepped properly recently that they aren't reaching their full slickness potential :o I store mine in a cool basement area.

Setec- heh heh, OK, maybe you oughta recalibrate that slickometer ;)

I've been refilling an old BF QD bottle with FK425 and stashing the gallon back in the aforementioned storage closet, we'll see if it starts going bad.

just used 425 this evening for the first time after a wash, and i don't see it any better than eagle one waud, mothers fx spray wax, etc. it wasn't bad, but i don't think i'll be buying a gallon anytime soon...

I just bought a gallon I haven't tried yet.

:o it's not bad... and i wouldn't hesitate to use it if i had a gallon, but i've been using other qd's that satisify . still looking for "the one"... :)

Me too! I think the problem is the cheaper OTC qd's work just fine, e.g E1 W&S and Mother's Showtime.

I've tried several boutique QD's, including QS and Sonus, with only marginally better results than the better OTC products.

My initial application showed better the next day, wait until tomorrow and see if it adds anything.

I gave a sample to my friend and he said that it was "good, but..." When I watched him applying it I was surprised that he misted the whole panel with it evenly then simply wiped it off. Far too much!

I use a quarter trigger pull per half panel (or one spritz when I'm using the little mister bottle) and I spread/wipe it clean quickly, but no pressure. For me it produces a glossier film than any QD in my experience. And although it is working on a wet surface it was not intended to use as a WAUD product.

Even when I experiment with other QD's, I still use 425 on my windshield...I have found nothing that will make me change from that.

I've used all those OTC qd's actually I don't think there is an OTC I haven't tried, and IMHO none of them are at all like 425. The FK 425 qd is a category of its own.

The consistency of the liquid is also very different to Eagle One, Mother's, Meguiars, Sonus.

I don't know if its just me but after a rain fall the car's surfaces seems to be CLEANER

and without spots almost as if the teflon like finish of 425 aids in letting accumulation

slide down the paint. Optimum No-Rinse and 425 is a great low maintenace combination.

Soot from driving has all but disappeared from my car. I could go out right now after not washing the car in 7 days (always parked outside) and run a MF across the paint and there will the smallest amount of dirt on that towel since I've owned this car. I also use FK 146 so I don't know if that should get some of the credit.

p.s.

the prep or lack of it affects the effectiveness and look of 425. I find it magnifies flawes or excellent prep.
