Fixing Hack Jobbers Work

A customer has come to me numerous times to try and fix some of Mings screw ups, but everytime he goes back there, they make it worse. I finally told him I should just do the whole car, not just little bits and pieces.

Ended up doing a complete, and recieving a 100 dollar tip! :getdown

Many rotary swirls, and deep cut swirls from a aggresive pad on the rotary used improperly.

Process:

#83 via rotary and cutting pad

#82 via PC and polishing pad

SSR 1 via PC and finishing pad

Awsome Gloss

To think he paid $500 for the detail!

That was the rebirth of a car! You deserved the tip, well done. In my area getting someone to spend $100 total is a small miracle in itself.

Great detail! I like the current Lancer Ralliart front - looks clean.

What I really don't get the Evo wing and vortex generator on a Lancer... That is just trying too hard to make the car something it's not. Plus, they're used to generate down force for traction on the rear wheels.. something that doesn't matter for a FWD car.

The vortex thing is to cover up a bird poop etching. It was cheaper than having the roof repainted. The wing on the other hand, adds to the car. It looks bare with out it.

There's a regular Ralliart wing too. To me it is just too much like adding Type R badges to a Civic. Yeah, it's from Honda but it's not quite the same thing.

I didn't understand most of what you said, but yes, I'm pretty sure he's near the limit of any more major polishing.

Thanks everyone. :)

Benjamin tip referred to US money...Ben Franklin is on the $100 bill. He probably didn't realize you are in Canada.

The tip was well-deserved. You more than "fixed" the hack-job--you made the car look great. Really nice work. :xyxthumbs

Yes, nice work indeed. I'd say 15% of my jobs are fixing other people's bad buffer work, usually from body shops but dealership detailers do their fair share of bad work.

Damn Steve, just an unreal transformation! :bow

Honestly, you are probably the 17-year-old detailer period...and based on what I've seen you do, you are definitely an elite detailer even by autopia standards. :)
