first exterior detail since becoming an Autopian

I received all my products and did all the reading on the forum that I could before tackling a "guinea truck". My brothers Chevy full size was in dire need of some paint attention. This is a secondary truck that he bought used. The previous owner(s) certainly used it as a truck and it has plenty of imperfections so I did what I could.

I washed the exterior. There was a good deal of dried up pine sap on the hood which I had to remove. I used Goof Off and it came off easily, thankfully.

Clayed with Clay Magic.

Taped up trouble areas so I didn’t have to worry about the black trim (highly suggested, the small amount of time it took was well worth it)

Used the PC on 6 with some Sonus SFX2 and a white pad. This didn't quite achieve what I was looking for so I switched to the yellow (SFX1) pad. This helped get more of the imperfections out. I did what I learned here by starting mild and moving toward abrasive. I didn't have any other polishes on hand so I knew a step up in pad would at least help.

Topped off with a coat of NXT. I wanted to try some Klasse but time did not allow me to.

Thanks for all of the help and tips. I still have about 5 other "guinea vehicles" lined up in an array of colors to test different looks of products.

You have done a nice job with products that I am unfamiliar with. Never have used any Sonus products. I just received my first sonus pad. Have yet to use it.

The look that you have is terrific. your brother should be real happy

I like the wheels on the truck. Wish they were on my truck!

I noticed something that i do as well. this is for information rather than being critical. I tend to leave the wheel wells alone. but since you dress the wheels so well the inside edge of the wheel well looks as if it did not get washed. I guess it could be chipped paint. So I mite be wrong on this. Just food for thought on the next guinea vehicle that you get to do.

Very nice work. My same body style and same paint color (except I have extended cab). Red looks nice when it's good and glossy.

Thank you and yes he is very happy with the way it came out! Even the neighbors commented on how nice it came out :) Prospective customer is how I see it.

I totally understand what you are talking about with the wheel wells. I attempted to clean them but that area would not come clean. The paint is messed up in that section and I am not certain there is much I could have done with it. I would have though used some tire foam in the wheel well to dress it up some if I would have had the time to do that for him. No big deal it's supposed to rain all weekend anyway :(

I appreciate that you mentioned that and I always take it as informational. It is the only way to learn.

Thanks for all the compliments y'all!

Looks awesome! For your first time you did a great job, cant wait to see your future work here on autopia. Say goodbye to your money as well :grinno: it's addicting

Yea tell me about it... It's like a kid in a candy store.

That was my first order plus some other things I picked up since I had to visit all of the local auto-part stores to see what lines of products they carry.

A bit off topic but it reminds me of a friend of mine. He likes to fish but he's a lazy sucker so never really goes often BUT he could open a chain of tackle stores with the amount of stuff that he buys! With no exageration he has over 200 fishing rods/reels and a lure that will catch anything from a guppie to a whale :lol

Life is certainly about having fun and if the small things as such bring us pleasure... well hell then we're easy to please and I'm dying happy!

Looks like you have a great collection of products so far. I like buying new products and trying out new things. I don't mind spending the money because I know I will make it back detailing 1 or 2 cars, and plus...detailing is fun to me :dance I noticed you have Sonus pads, how do you like them?

Very nice work! I wouldn't have known it was your first 'autopian' detail if you hadn't said anything.

That red paint has that cool hard wet candy look you get from NXT. I like it! :up

The pads were excellent. I can not compare to anything else because the only thing I've used previously was a Craftsman 9" orbital and bonnets. No comparison at all to what the Sonus pads and PC accomplished!

Thanks man. After admiring your work I take your compliment highly :xyxthumbs

The red is really nice now. I am a bit color blind and after I was removing the NXT it almost had an orange look to it... :nixweiss haha.
