First Detailing Job!

Well, I just got my first detail job for money today. He has a red f150, and chrome/alluminum alloy wheels. It is a work trucks and he didn't want the full detail. I suggested a basic wash that includes exterior wash, interior vaccum, clean and dress interior vinyl and rubber, interior and exterior glass cleaning, clean wheels, wheel wells, tires, dress tires, and use a sealant. The paint isn't in the greatest shape. It was scratched, and swirl marked to hell. Remeber, he doesn't want the full treatment. Just a basic cleaning of interior and exterior with some protection. I was thinking just clean the outside up and use something like EX as a sealant for the red. Any suggestions, recommendations would be great guys. First detail as a job for money and kinda nervous. I hope I didn't under/over price. This is what I told him I would do:

Wash
Full interior treatment minus the carpet cleaning
Clean all glass
Wheels, wheel wells, and tire cleaning plus dressing the tires
Add a Sealant

Total = $40.00

My products I have are:

UPC
UPP
PwC
EX-P
Natty's
PB's Wheel Sealant
UGE
S&W
S&G

SSR's wont be used in this situation.

Help me out here guys... lol.

I do something very similair to that. its my middle package. I charge 60 for a truck using that package and then a $10 upsell for a sealant instead of PwC. So i think you are undercharging but thats a good way to get customers when you are starting out. You can start to build up your clientel and then when they realize the work you do you can re-work the rates. The only thing I woudl suggest is that you clay the vehicle before you use EX. $40 is pretty cheap when your claying though so maybe give him a demo of what clay does before you do that task.

Hey Greg, appreciate the feedback. I was thinking I priced too low as well but I think he will be happy with the results and I am going to deffinately clay the truck. It really needs it bad. Kinda made me a little nervous when I ended up in the conversation and giving out contact information and pricing. I didn't want to scare him away with a high price so that's just what came to mind. He suggested a good wax but I told him a good wax can't be compared to the durrabily and long-term protection he is wanting with a sealant. I just placed an order for some AIO and EX. Excited about the detail and can't wait. Like Dwayne said over the phone, "I got bit by the detailing bug"! lol.. Couldn't agree more.

haha. Dwayne is a sharp guy and I think he knows we all have the bug. You could try the sg over the aio if you want. Im not sure which has the longer durablity as far as Ex and SG. I would also would let him know that it would be wise for him to have you maintain the vehicle a couple times a month for the best durablity of the sealant of your choice.

Greg

If the truck has not been maintained, and isn't fairly new, you'd probably make a bigger impression with something like PwC than a pure sealant, as there is likely to be some oxidation. (even getting rid of some cob webs will make the paint look way better!) Using a polish with make the color look richer. Even though you aren't doing the whole shebang, using PwC instead of a pure sealant doesn't add any steps to your workload, and assuming you can use a machine (PC/rotary), it shouldn't add a great deal of time to the total either.
Just a thought.

Both are good ideas. Not sure which route I will take. Either way I will be doing it with the PC. I would like to do a little polishing to clean the paint up some so the PwC might be an option either that or AIO + SG. Put sence the SG has a learning curve to it I don't think I will throw myself into that without some prior trial and error you know. maybe either PwC + EX or AIO + EX. By the way Dwayne described it EX would give a wet and darker look to the red. How would PwC or AIO perforum under the sealant? By the look I got from PwC on my silver metallic is kinda brightened things up so that might be a good way to go, and Greg I deffinately advised him to let me maintain the look of that car by doing a wash and what not atleast once a week if he wants it to look nice all. He said that takes it through the quick wash most of the time and looking for something better. I think I can offer that. lol.

If you used AIO or PwC under EX it would IMHO definatly look feel and be cleaner than just a standalone EX. I dont know what it does for durabilty though. PwC and EX brings up the issue of will EX bond with PwC correctly? As a rule sealants dont jive on top of carnauba's but maybe PwC is an exception. I would ask steve (poorboy) he would definatly know. As far as AIO and EX, I have done that combo and liked it very much. I had done megs #80 prior to that so that added to the look im sure.

Greg

I will wait and see what Steve has to say about PwC+EX and if it would work I will try it out on my grandfathers red blazer to see what it will look like and if I like I will go with that. If not I will try AIO+EX. Will choose the one I like the best. Thanks on the info on the sealant on top of a carnuba not being a compatible combo. Maybe this will work!
