Finished! 86 Vette Black...From death to new life. It's alive and kicken!

OUTSTANDING !!! You made a $5K Corvette into a $12k Corvette !!!

Chris Angel and David Blaine got nothing on you !!!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! You guys are the greatest!:up

The car was actually somewhat of an enjoyment to make beautiful again. It was alot of work being that it was repainted numerous times and I had to blend all the colors together and each panel needed different approaches, but was workable. The paint was not rock hard like the newer ones..Thank god. The whole nose of the car was just painted last week along with being just buffed out, but was a horrible job.

The paint was on the finicky side as it was a cheap budget quality wholesale job and cheap azz paint. At first it was drying out my normal Presta compounds, so out came the PG and that worked excellent on a yellow edge wool pad. The rest of the car got SIP with an orange pad on some panels and some got SIP on a white pad. The biggest problem was bringing it outside in the sun to check the panels in the sun to look at the thickness. I have a pretty good eye for this as I have done so many cars in this condition.

I guess the whole key to a perfect end results like this is skill, product knowledge, hard work, and tons of determination. I am always determined to see what the car will look when it is done. I have major OCD when it comes to prep and finish work and I always think I can bump it to the next level safely.:D

Thanks Bryan for the nice comments!

I usually use a quarter size of the UCC for a 2x2 area. However the paint dried this stuff out fast. So it was out with the PG on wool and suprise. The dust is on the crazy side but I keep a wet mf handy and wipe after each working 2x2 area.

Ummmmmm this is the first time I am actually speechless when it comes to responding (to my credit, I actually managed a response about my speechlessness which only goes against what I was saying about not having anything to say at all). See I'm now babbling incohernetaly, Ryan you are an amazing detailer man!!!!!!!

I just laughed my azz off on that one Todd!

very nice, i bet you were a little nervous while sanding that thing down. looks great.

When it comes time for wetsanding on a job like this I know pretty much the depth usually buy the OP. I always cut through halfway of the OP and then dry and inspect in the sun or a flashlight. Halogens are sometimes hard to work with on jobs like this as they make everything appear worst than what they appear and on wetsanding it is all about removing the OP and stop there.

SHICHS: I have wetsanded hundreds of cars and have also painted back in the day also. As long as the painter lays the clear on thick and even, the wetsanding and proper polishing will make almost and paint job look like a showcar. The bodywork prep on this car was not the greatest, but I was able to take the curse off. It does take experience to do it correctly on a car that has been worked on so many times though. Each panel you have to treat different.

did u get a new camera cause those are the first pics that really show your ability

car looks amazing!!! Why z8 as lsp?

Thanks Diesel!

I still have my old camera, but I made sure I held it still and gave it plenty of time to focus. The white noise is still in the pics and they have no depth. I might get photo shop or something.

I have been looking at this Fuji s5200 or the 6000 cam that are great for the price. I am spending my money more on a camcorder so I can do video click and brags. Be much more fun and entertaining and helpful to alot of people also.

I used Z8 cause they had someone looking at it soon and I was out of time. I know z8 will give it 3 to 4 weeks easy. They were also on a budget and sacrifised correction for durability. I could only imagine what it would have looked like with a couple coats of z5 and cs:shocked

Amazing transformation - how can you work for such an a$$hole??

Complaning about the price??

Besides criminals, car salesmen are the biggest crooks imho

HAHA:chuckle: That was funny Thomas! Ya that's how they are. Even my regular customers complain about prices, unless they really love their car. I use to be a car saleman and had my own place for quite awhile. I was always honest and my customers always loved me for it. I always bent over backwards for them and fixed things correct. A couple of months ago I went to work for this big dealer and I quit after 6 hours of being there and watching their scams. When they told me I had to sell their paint sealant package for $600 and had to push it hard or else, I then flipped out badly and the GM got nervouse and scared:argue I told him he will rot in he#! :D

For one day I would love to take one of these people and show them what to do and write down the hunded steps of what to do and do not do and put them in a garage for 12 hours straight and see how they feel when they are done. I gaurantee that most of them would not even be able to handle it and say I am crazy for doing it.

I personally think most of us hard working prep guys are underpaid on these regular cars. I wish there were more exotics around my area. All these deperate $100 shops are misleading people into "it is all the same and we are the cheapest and best". Sad part is I always get stuck fixing these messed up cars after they got detaled from a hack.

I am going video and will try to change the detail world and show people what the difference is between wash and wax and total prep and recondition....atleast I will try!

I know I will not be detailing forever as I would love to find a company to work for introducing new polishes etc. and giving advice to the world. I just have to be a 100% believer in the product and company.:usa someday!

Ryan, I dont even know what to say! :bounce

HOLY SH#T!! That is by far the SICKEST turnaround I have *ever* seen! WOW..... :getdown

Now one question, Does the Powergloss play well with Edge wool?? How bout Edge or LC foam??

How serious of a compound is the PG?

Thanks for all your help recently as well, you are definitely the best detailer I know of!

Great work man! Just Outstanding friggin work!

Jim

Thanks Jim! The PG did play well with the yellow edge wool. It does work well on the LC foam pads too. I have not tried it on the edge foam pads yet.

The PG has double the cutting power of SIP, but it still is creamy. It did leave some marring that I did take care of with SIP and orange lc pad and then finished offf with 106ff.

Does dust a bit, but it is the nature of this process. Like I said before, I keep a damp MF and clean the area after I am done and this helps eliminate some of it.

Thanks again for the nice comments!:bigups

That has to be one of the best make-overs I have seen posted in my nearly 6 years here. :bow

Whatever they paid you, it wasn't enough for the value you added to that car.

Thank you very much Scott! I know coming from you that is an excellent compliment:up

I have done jobs that were worst than this before. I always compete against myself and always try to win. :chuckle: This year with all the latest new products I have tried, my skill level has reached the max. I have spent long nights in my garage finding new ways of correction. My girlfriend gets so mad sometimes, but she is getting use to it now. I have always been weak for correction polishes and as you know that is the heart of the detail. I have the eye and know exectly how paint reacts as it is being worked on. The hard part is that all paints are different and require a special technique.

As for prices, as soon as I make some video links regarding correction, my prices are going up to $50/hour minimum. When a customer wants a full blown correction job they will recieve a link to a video in what goes into a correction.

I think you and I need to get together and change the market Scott! I know it is a hard task, but I am determined. I know we are all underpaid for our services. I know I personally am.

Someday I would love to come to Texas and visit you. Maybe we could do a car together.
