Finish Kare FK 2180 and FK 1000P Discussion

I think that the physical protection is good with 1000P; I rate it similarly good as 476 (maybe a tad lower), but I never observed the sealants (2180, 218) alone, dunno why.

Excellent, Bence, thank you. 1000P is definitely going to be in the test.

Rob - the 1000 will look fantastic on silver. Immedietly. You can't go wrong. Durability is 10+

The term *dull* is a bit confusing. Imagine it looking like a handsome wax after application, but it improves the look in the next 2-3 days significantly. It gains focus, definition. It will go extremely sharp.

Thanks guys.

That's all I need to hear. I will try 1000P.

Would you recommend using something like Opti-Seal as a base under the 1000P?

I was thinking of this work flow: Clay, SIP, Opti-Seal (x2 or 3), 1000P.

OK, all this FK talk got my fat butt out of the chair and into the garage. I had tried 2180 on my hood and was impressed, I guess I just got to trying other stuff (Zaino) and never did the whole car with 2180. After I discovered that Zaino had a few quirks I decided to try other stuff and last night I did my 2008 Honda Accord. It had a few light scratches that came off with FFII and an orange 4" pad with my PC. I used a LC 6.5" blue pad to apply the 2180, I really worked it in the paint, I usually felt that you need two applications - but not after "buffing" it in. I let it cure for 30 minutes then it wiped off effortlessly with a MF towel. Looks were VERY good, as good or better than the Z5 & Z2 I had tried and definitely slicker. I think I will let it go for a few weeks before trying the Pink Wax, but I'm impressed by 2180 so far.

Rob, there is no scientific explanation to that. I just feel that 1000P is a more substantial base.

But sandwiching the 1000P between OOS layers is also an interesting approach. Experiment, experiment.

:D

I use one aio in some form to have a clean suface. Opti seal is very wet looking to me so that should be a great combo.

Awesome.

This is the season for resurrection: this thread is back from the dead!

It's enough to make me long to place an FK order. But I have so much stuff (Ultima, Zaino) that it makes no sense.

When has that ever stopped anyone around here from buying more stuff?!

;)

Hey, Rob, good point!

The only thing I haven't been satisfied with the Zaino about is that I am still getting rain spotting. I think our rain here in NC is pretty acid from all the coal-fired elec generation.

I loved Bence's demo of how well the FK1000P repelled Hungarian dirt. And I know some folks think Collinite 476 provides better environmental protection than sealants.

Anyone have experience with Zaino and FK1000P to offer an opinion on protection from acid rain?

Sherri, it's good to see you coming out of the woodwork. :)

I'm going to be doing a big sealant roundup/test this summer, but unfortunately it's not done yet. Zaino and 1000p are on the list to be tested.

Honestly, the main reason I am no longer a Zainoite is because of what you experienced; it just doesn't protect very well against water spots. Well, *IMO*, it doesn't protect very well against anything, period, but that's the subject of many flame wars...

Given the results Bence had with the 1000p and the nasty Hungarian rain/dirt, it sure looks like 1000p would give you the protection you need. I also really like UPGP's enviornmental protection, looks, and durability. Sealants really seem to be gaining ground on carnauba's ability to protect.

I just finished placing my order with Finish Kare. I ordered:

1. Poly Wash (Perls is my favorite car wash, but figured I would give this a try)

2. 1000P (for added protection and looks)

3. Top Kote (I like the idea of a leather/vinyl/plastic protector that prevent dust attraction)

I tried to order their wheel cleaner as well (I normally use P21S) but they were out of stock.

So yeah, not many products that I *needed*, but I ordered anyway! :dance

Now Sherri, you know we have nuclear power here in the triangle. It must be all that rain coming from the rust belt that we've been getting lately. It seems to rain every weekend now, at least those morons at WRAL weather will soon have to conceed the drought is over. I cut my grass today and the ruts from my tractor tires filles up with water, got home to find two deer drinking from the new spring in my yard - swear to God!

I can't decide whether to top my 2180 with Pink Wax or let it go, my wife even said it looked great, and this is a day later and it's got the yellow pine pollen blanket.

Did you ever get around to doing the sealant test and posting it? I couldn't find anything from you related to a big sealant test.

Yeah, I did do the comparisons, but I got lazy and never posted any pictures or results. Well, it was a combination of laziness and a hectic work schedule last summer. Well, that and the fact that Zaino didn't fare well, and I didn't want to risk yet another Zaino flame fest. ;)

I've had issues with waterspotting on glass from our acidic rain and hard water. It doesn't seem as if glass does a very good job of protecting from waterspots:sadpace:

Well I'm certainly looking forward to your comparison of sealants. If you don't want to publicly post it I'd appreciate if you just PM me even just the raw data. I simply want to see how the most durable sealants fare against each other.

But I don't think we need to worry about a Zaino flame fest. It'll be a good read I'm sure and will add more data for others trying to pick a sealant.
