Favorite QDs?

Not finding much on what the quick detailers of choice are. I dont need a seperate clay lube and spray wax and clearcoat massage oil/aromatherape scented misting agent. Just a good slick, clean QD I can use for drying, clay and touchups. Im dead tired of Megs QD. I tried a little bit of a purple pez scented stuff from Route 66 Chemicals I really liked but I know nothing about it.



I like the price on the gallon of 3D Final touch, whats the general opinion on that? Good stuff for what Im looking to do?

Finish kare 425 is hard to beat, the price is great, the quality is outstanding.



I starting to like Tuf Shine QD, leave a nice wet look....seems to attract more dust than 425.

Their is a new one I got called Technicians Choice Tec 24 Express Detailer. It does a great job, leaves a very high gloss ,is super slick, and claims to leave protection for 30 to 40 days. I used it on my company van and its gone thru one automatic car wash and is still very shiny and very slick. It wipes off very easy and doesent streak at all.
 
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm looing into them. Doess anyone have ny info to share about 3D final touch? At 8 bucks a gallon the price is right.
 
The finish kare 425 claimes to have antistatic properties. If this is true and effective, we may have a winner. I live a mile down a dirt road and it gives me a brain hemorrhage every time I drive my car.
 
yourgrandma- You won't like this response, but I don't use the "one size fits all" approach to QDs. I use different ones for different things. So I guess I won't have a good suggestion for ya.



But with regard to FK425, it *is* very good, and it does have some (pretty minimal, IMO) anti-static qualities. But I don't use it on carnaubas (peferring Griot's SpeedShine) and I don't use it for clay lube (preferring Glyde). And I prefer others (such as FK146 or potent ONR mix) when I need to do any real cleaning.
 
3D Final Touch is one of the Qds I'm presently using.

Its better than most but not as good as some. :dizzy:

At $8 a gallon its a steal. :thumb:
 
Look at FK425 or optimum's instant detailer (OID). The OID seems more expensive but keep in mind you dilute it 3:1 so it's actually one of the more economical, and positively reviewed, QDs.



I have a gallon of 3D final touch. Picked it up because of the rock bottom price. I'm overusing it to get through it and will not be getting it again. It leaves streaks even when used in a garage and doesn't really leave the surface that slick. Some have had better experiences...
 
I must have 15-20 different QD's and they are all collecting dust since using Ultima Waterless Wash. Because of the cleaning agents and polymers it is much safer then using a QD. Only waterless wash with polycharger. One 16 ozs. bottle will make 5.5 gallons of QD.
 
I have switched to 3D Final touch, and I love it!

It leaves a really nice finish, looks very comparable to the very best. It does an excellent job as far a cleaning, has tons of lubricity, and I like the strawberry smell.



No, it is not as slick as others, true. Yes, it streaks more easily. Both of these are minor issues.

A quick detailer, in my eyes, must have enough cleaning power and lubricity to be used SAFELY on surfaces that are not clean. It should also leave some protection. While the 3D final touch is nowhere as slick as FK425, it is also miles ahead of it in cleaning power and lubricity, and look is very close. Like may others, I used FK425 (and loved it), but never considered it a true quick detailer. FK425 is more like a spray booster with some very minor cleaning ability.



The streaking with the 3D final touch is mainly because is has a lot of lubricants. Like its cousins, 3D waterless wash and HD free, it cleans nicely, has tons of lubricity, longer working time, but streaks if over applied. To avoid the streaking, apply less. Alternatively, you can dilute it 1:1 with distilled water. I use 3DFT (3D final touch) for household duties also. Many of us used FK425 for the same task. Some piano finish bezels showed some spiderweb when I was using FK425. On the ones where I have only used 3DFT, the finish is still spiwerweb free, meaning it is doing a better job as far as cleaning. Diluted 1:1 is perfect for household duties. I still use it full strength for the car.



If you need to carry a bottle that can be used when you are far on the road, that can be used safely without scratching, what would you carry? At $16 a gallon it is a great deal, at $8 it is a steal.
 
AlexRuiz- That's interesting info on 3DFT, especially about the marring-free cleaning. Now if it just didn't have that strawberry scent (yeah, I know others like such stuff...).
 
Well folks, Ive decided Ill just get both the 3D FT and FK425. The latter in a sample size along with some others. It does sound like perhaps I would use the 3D after a rain or something and the FK after dusting. Like I said, living on a dirt road makes keeping a black car looking good very challenging.

This is totally proof that smell should always be rated as subjective. I love the strawberry scent, but then I also love the poorboys coconut, tropicare pina colada and many others ;)



Back into the 3DFT, it is a very well rounded quick detailer. how is 3D able to sell it this cheap? No idea. I have the impression that their paint cleansing products formula is very similar (HD free, 3D waterless and 3DFT) and only vary in the amount of lubricants and wax.

How long is the dirt road? How fast do you drive it?



Our street is paved, but there is a 1/2 mile stretch of dirt on the road connecting our street to the main road. My wife pokes fun at me that if I could, I would get off the car, start walking and carry the car on my back ;) I take this stretch at no more than 20 km/h (aprox 12 mph, and it takes me like 3 minutes) This is also yellowish clay dirt. Liveable when dry, nasty stuff when wet as it sticks like glue. Keeping the speed down guarantees that the wheel wheels get most of the splatter when wet. If I am coming home I just immediately rinse them. If leaving and raining, i just let the water on the road clean the weel. If wet road and not raining, I carry a 2 gallon garden sprayer and i rinse the wells as soon as I am out of the dirt road.



Yeah, I am sure other drivers might wonder why I am fumigating my wheel wells.



Back into the 3DFT, it will do fine. I might suggest, however, to supplement it with HD free waterless car wash. HD free is a dedicated car wash.
