what are your favorites? Looking for suggestions for some VW's and Audis I will be doing. I have the megs combo but looking for some others to use on the GG6.

Thanks!

While I haven't done the entire car yet, I did a test panel on my 07 Passat using UNO V4 and 5" B&S Orange with my GG6. 4-6 passes with moderate pressure then 2 with light pressure and it came out great--all swirls gone and ready for LSP.

Use wool or MF pads to start with, no matter what products you use. Naturally 105/UNO/101 (if you can get it) will do the best job as they are the most aggressive.

Right. The MF cutting pads work fine on Audi clear for me, both with Uno and M105 (haven't tried M101). Orange pads will also do the work, but take longer (often a lot longer, last time I switched to the MF to get things moving along).

Accumulator...do you then finish with a MF polishing pad and something like 205?

I've never tried the MF polishing pad. I finish with foam.

I sometimes finish with M205, but I prefer 1Z High Gloss. And sometimes when I use M205 I follow it with something from Menzerna, which has sometimes really ramped up the gloss (but note the repeated use of the qualifier "sometimes" ;) ).

I've always used PO85RD on any micromarring on Audi clear and Mercedes Ceramiclear.

My bottle is still sitting unused on the shelf, gotta give it a go sometime. First, I'd better study up on it, IIRC there's a bit of a knack to using it.

Funny that it'd fix micromarring on Audis; I'm currently giving the Crown Vic (much softer clear) a quick going-over with some 106 (forget which version it is..this is the stuff sold under the BlackFire label, I'm just using it up on that car) and it's not taking out much of *anything*. Bringing the gloss up OK, but not fixing any flaws to speak of and I'd expect that stuff to cut more than the PO85RD. Guess there's micro-marring and then there's MICRO-marring.

For hard paint I use Power Gloss either with foam or wool. Spritz of water really reduces the dust and finishes very well for a compound

On a recent detail I found PowerGloss worked better than M105 and UNO4. Go figure. :nixweiss

My "good" painter says the same thing! He swears his PG cuts a lot better than M105, did direct comparisons.

He was so unimpressed with M105 (sample of v1.0 from his Meg's rep) that he gave it to his wife to use on some householdy thing, maybe a cast-iron stove or somesuch.

Interesting. Maybe it's the pad combo that makes the performance difference. My goto compounding pad now is the purple kompressor - is this the best cutting pad in the world? I think so. ;)
