Mobil 1 as they started this long ago when I was young.

Gee no one for that new Zymol oil?

Royal Purple -

Basically, for the same $$$ or even less, there are much more robust and quality oils out there. I'd avoid it as there is a question of it's ability to maitain it weight rating not shearing quickly ...

This is the latest oil analysis on my wife's car, done by Wearcheck Mississauga (with interpretation to be done by Terry Dyson)

Here is the data:

2000 Honda Civic

1.6L non Vtec engine, 106hp, automatic

5w30 Royal Purple (SL formula)

2600 miles on oil/42,000 miles on engine

K&N oil filter

Fram air filter

Oil was run from Nov 23 to Mar 29 (20 weeks)

No top up oil

She does 90% city type driving, she does about 125-150 miles/wk

Extremely cold winter weather (most mornings below 10F, some

mornings as low as

-10F), car is garaged overnight though

I had a virgin sampleof this exact batch of oil done by Terry Dyson last fall, and the viscosity was 11.4 cst at 100c, so this oil thinned out considerably in a short interval! I'm not impressed. Wear metals are pretty high for such a short interval too (although it could be Royal Purple cleaning out old wear metals like Redline does) My sister's 8k run with Mobil 1 in the exact same engine looked better than this run in many areas, including TBN.

After I sample this oil I put in a fresh batch of Royal Purple and another K&N oil filter. The plan was to run this batch until October (approx. 5-6k) and then put in the 0w30 Castrol SLX. But now I'm wondering if I should continue to run this oil. How can a fully synthetic oil thin out so much in such a short time? I'd hate to see this oil in a hard driven LS1 Corvette or F-body, if my wife's tiny motor can thin it out so much.

PS-this was the very first run with Royal Purple. Prior to this, the engine has seen nothing but Mobil 1 5w30, Trisynthetic, SJ formula (other than the first break in oil change which was with 3qts Valvoline 5w30 and 1qt Mobil 1 mixed)

I'd have to go with Mobil 1 if I am running synthetic, and either Mobil Drive Hard or Valvoline if I am going the dino/blend route.

Careful with those Amsoil drain intervals. You could be doing a lot of harm to your vehicle for modest saving of running a 15K internval which is very reasonable.

Idling, short trips can wreck havoc on motor so unless that 30K is all highway, I'd cut it much shorter.

Amsoil or Mobil 1. Royal Purple is a bit too expensive. I don't know about it being questionable as to it's ability to hold it's viscosity, but I personally know the Royal Purple industrial products distributor here in Detroit (and they claim they have their fingers into the retail distribution of the car lubricants as well), and I know how these guys price, and RP is WAY over priced.

Royal Purple, more UOA are coming indicating it isn't shear resistent. Go with something more robust such as Mobil, Amsoil or Redline.

Man, two days ago I ordered Amsoil online, I would guess around noon, yesturday afternoon it shows up at my door! Great packaging, and they threw in a couple different product brochures and such. I paid about 6 or $7 for the shipping, so its not like I paid for rush delivery or anything like that! AWESOME!!!

<---------------------Amsoil here buddy.

BTW, does anyone have the Amsoil Bypass Filter system on there car/truck/whatever you have???? I know Amsoil makes 2 of these systems, the single Bypass and the Dual Remote filter system. Anyone have any info on these I'm all ears,,,,91
