Engine cleaning on a unkept dd

So i may have to clean the engine bay on a santa fe that hasn`t been kept up well, but potential client saw the work capable on his daughters jetta`s interior, http://www.autopia.org/forums/click...6744-hellstorm-midst-detailing-whirlwind.html, as well as some cars sitting in warehouse that I`ve done and was impressed with. He mentioned he would like the interior, exterior, and engine done, but my question is what would you use on cleaning an engine that is a nonshow and a dd so that it looks respectable but i dont spend 4-5 hrs on either?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated and looked into, i have my own thoughts and ideas but am looking at others cause some of you will know more on this step than I sure do.

good topic. I need to clean my engine bay up as well on the dd Frontier. I`ve never cleaned it since I bought it 3+ years ago and steamed the sticky gunk they put on there off

I have purchased several engine cleaning products and brushes for the task over the past few years but never got around to it

cleaning engine bays with water scares me, even with taping stuff off

the only times I cleaned engines was when they were already in good shape and I used PA engine or damp RW micros

My engine wasn`t too bad, but spraying with optimum power clean and wiping away the gunk worked pretty well. THen just spritzing with ONR to wipe clean. Did well enough to just tidy up, and didn`t take very long at all.

Polish Angel Engine.

Period !

Spray swish dirty areas with brush and wipe with MF towel. It cleans and protects in one application. Those MF go in the trash.

I`ve got great picks of doing my sons Subaru after he went to a horse show down some dirt roads. Truly amazing stuff and cheap by PA standards.

My favorite is Blackfire AIO trim & tire. Cleans & protects in one step. Although if the engine is really dirty I`ve started using PB Spray & Wipe first.

Get a small wood or plastic stick and two or three throw away rags. Next get some Chemical Guys Silk Shine Dressing & Protectant and spray it all around the engine bay and start wiping off with a rag that is moist with water by hand and use the stick with the rag to reach where your hand does not. This will be the cleaning step that you will follow buy wiping again quickly with another clean rag moistened by the silk shine sprayed directly on the rag. This should take less than 30 minutes and will look like a new engine bay. This is for DD cars and will save your time and products. It will make the plastic, hoses, and weather strip look new again. The metal will look clean and new.

This engine bay was cleaned with Megs Super Degreaser and a brush then rinsed. Then spayed 303 Aerospace Protectant and run the engine for 10 mins to help it dry. It took less then 1 hour to complete.

I have the largest size. I`m not home but I think it`s 500ml. I used about 5% on a really bad, dusty dirty engine.

It was quick, easy, looked great and no water in the engine bay.

HYPER DRESSING also make`s a great enging dressing. 4:1 - 3:1.
Do a good degreasing with whatever you chose. LOW water pressure from a garden hose. Cover the batt/alt etc. RINSE clean. Then spray hyper dressing all over the engine. Nice part about using hyper dressing is the engine does not have to be dry. Spray it on after degreasing and walk away. DO NOT TOUCH IT! It will dry and leave you with a perfect looking engine and bay.

I got some rupes degreaser that I need to use and review. Maybe I`ll use that to clean it with

Eh, while I`m all about getting/having/keeping the engine compartments (and undercarriages) of Daily Drivers really *REALLY* nice, I fear my approaches take far to much time/effort to be of any help here.

BUT I will suggest that your LSP be something that won`t retain dust/dirt, a product that dries truly *dry*.
