I’m new to machine polishing. After reading a lot of stuff on these forums, I bought a Makita 9227C, Megs 105 and 205, Edge 6 orange (light cut) and blue (polish/finish) pads, and some 4 Cyclo pads that work with the Edge system – yellow/orange (cut/medium cut) and green/white (polish/finish).
When Megs 105 didn’t give the correction I needed with any of these pads, I went back to the forums and found that others had success with Megs 105 using wool pads; with Lake Country PFW leading the pack. Edge makes a line of wool pads, but no foamed wool. Of the Edge line, is there one that is equivalent in cut and performance to PFW? The lack of a 4 wool pad in the Edge line is also a hit. What would you recommend – buy PFW with a matching backing plate and forget about sticking with one attachment system? 4, 6, or both?
I’m trying to keep it simple, but I want good results. Also, I realize that my results may be due to operator error. I produced some hazing and some holograms on my practice panel, but I don’t think my technique would have prevented removal of swirls and light scratches.
Any input will be appreciated
