Edge wool pads vs PFW

I’m new to machine polishing. After reading a lot of stuff on these forums, I bought a Makita 9227C, Megs 105 and 205, Edge 6 orange (light cut) and blue (polish/finish) pads, and some 4 Cyclo pads that work with the Edge system – yellow/orange (cut/medium cut) and green/white (polish/finish).

When Megs 105 didn’t give the correction I needed with any of these pads, I went back to the forums and found that others had success with Megs 105 using wool pads; with Lake Country PFW leading the pack. Edge makes a line of wool pads, but no foamed wool. Of the Edge line, is there one that is equivalent in cut and performance to PFW? The lack of a 4 wool pad in the Edge line is also a hit. What would you recommend – buy PFW with a matching backing plate and forget about sticking with one attachment system? 4, 6, or both?

I’m trying to keep it simple, but I want good results. Also, I realize that my results may be due to operator error. I produced some hazing and some holograms on my practice panel, but I don’t think my technique would have prevented removal of swirls and light scratches.

Any input will be appreciated

I was in the process of switching to edge pads but returned them all, locate truck around here sells them. I think the LC pads are a bit nicer. Both are great systems and have their pros. The PFW is an awsome pad a worth every penny. It's really not that hard to switch between the backing plate and the adapter. All you got to do is hold down the black button on top of the makitanand it won''t spin.

I have all the Edge wool pads, from heavy cut down to finishing wool. Prior to M105 re-writing the entire paint correction book, I used the Edge wool pads quite often. Now, though, I pretty much stick to PFW unless I need *really* heavy correction, in which case I use the black Edge double twisted wool heavy cutting pad.

I also use Edge's 2000 wave foam six inch pads for finishing. They are fantastic pads.

You can get 4" yellow and blue wool pads from Cyclo Toolmakers . They're velco-backed versions of the Edge wool pads.

I *think* they'll work well with M105 but I did *NOT* like them with my 1Z Pasta Intensiv (via Cyclo and PC).

IME the PFW pads work great via PC and rotary, better *for me* (in my very limited experience) than the Edge yellow and blue wool.

Thanks, all. PFW it is - 4", 6", and a BP for each. And I added Edge 2000 Wave 6" pads to my order per SuperBee364's recommendation.

Thanks again,
