Hello

In a couple weeks I'm going to take my wheels off clean them in & out.So I'm thinking about this here http://www.brakedustcover.com/

Do you guys have any positives and or negatives comments about it.

Also which cleaner would be the best for the break pads, rotors etc...

Thank you

I think that it has been discussed on here before, and the only real drawback mantioned was they may trap in heat in and around the brake areas.

Now, would they stick out like a sore thumb and look tacky? That's another question, and one I would really consider before purchase.

My wheels constantly get dust build and with the buick rims i have it wouldn't be seen. I stepped up cleaning my wheels 2 X this week and i use wheel wax and spray wax..Good Thread

What kind of rims do you have on your car....if you can see the back of the rim for the outside they MAY look a bit goofy IMO

yep it's something that can happen.

I bought mine from AutoGeek a year ago & don't regret it one bit!! They have really reduced the amount of brake dust on the front of my wheels to nothing!! And so far there has been no evidence of the "heat build-up" issues I had been warned about.
If you buy them from our sponsor, they're a little cheaper with your DC discount :)

ahhh Granny you have to drive a bit over 35 to build up heat....:howdy

I do drive well over 35 & I have a souvenir ticket to the Policeman's Ball to prove it, thank you!!!:(

They make the wheels look like they're hubcaps. Which brings me to my next comment.

Don't steel wheels tht use hubcaps, have the same type of covering, not allowing heat to leave from the outside of the wheel?

Those are pointless, the back of the wheel is still trashed from the heat and brake dust. IMO, cleaning wheels regularly is not an issue...

I've always used a mild wheel cleaner. That might not be the best advice but I have to note that it's only done maybe once every other month ;) Simple Green wouldn't be a bad choice if it was diluted 10:1 I suppose but Meg's APC might be better formulated for those important safety items.

Why not use a dedicated wheel cleaner such as Poorboy's Spray & Rinse?? I would be leery of using Simple Green on rims or anywhere near my paint.

Let me clarify LOL...when I say using Simple Green might not be a bad choice, I actually meant on the caliper housings and the rotors, etc. Not the actual rims ;) Sorry if I said that wrong {blushing}

Someone might want to have an aide in keeping the visible part of the wheel free of brake dust. Maybe they are not interested in taking the wheel off on a regular basis. Or going thru the effort to clean the back of the wheels. I know that I am not. This provides a viable alternative to reduce the collection of brake dust to the outside of the wheel for those less inclined to do a regular cleaning.

Still confused...What would I use to clean the break pads, rotors etc... ???

Simple Green diluted ? I just don't want to damage it.

Thank you
