I'm certainly not the authority here but i used simple green diluted 10:1 today on my rotors, calipers and anything in sight in the wheel well. I used Meguiars Hot Rims to clean the back of my wheels (I took the wheels off today)..I let the sg dwell for about 10 minutes then took some clean soapy water and scrubbed. After i dried it all off, i shot the area with some Megs Hot Shine Foam and put the wheel back on. Nothing was damaged by the sg. 
It's pretty strong, so be careful.
