Duragloss Impressions

AW will out last OCW here in New England...the rain and salt killed OCW here..OCW is a good product...but not for harsh weather....I have had AW last 7 weeks..and still bead like new..slickness fell off some..but the shine and beading was very strong going..

OCW lasted about 4 weeks tops...and stopped ....

Are you sure ?, maybe polymers on OCW sheets instead of beads and AW use some old school carnauba to give it the beads. Cause I opened the spray trigger of OCW and that elastic polymer scumb around the lip is pretty tough and doesn't dilute with water. Try it, open the cap to see what is around the lip. If AW doesn't have any, then it answers my question.

AW has far outlasted OCW, in my testing. After 3-4 weeks, I was left with a very unfavorable impression of OCW's protective abilities. It seemed as though dirt/grime was "sticking" to my finish and was actually hard to wash off at that point. The surface wasn't slick at all and the wash mitt felt rough against the paint, as if nothing was protecting the paint at all. By comparison, AW has kept going for 2-3 months on the cars I've tested it on (some with literally no prior prep, just straight AW). The wash mitt glides across the surface again, and dirt and grime is not sticking to the finish again. For protective qualities, I'm gonna say that OCW can't really come close to touching AW.

In my opinion, I see OCW as more of a wax booster, as opposed to a true LSP. I feel very comfortable, however, with AW as a LSP on my car. It is going on 2.5-3 months on my wife's car, with absolutely no maintainence whatsoever to her finish. For a simple as pie spray wax, this is impressive to me!

Regards,

Mike

AW is strictly a polymer sealant..no wax(carnauba) at all....it is a water soluble polymer...as Mike said..AW is a very durable sealant....OCW is more like a booster...

AW in the winter when covered in salt...when sprayed with water the paint is clean...glossy and slick

OCW seems to hold grime and stops beading during winter....and paint gets grabby...

Theres something that doesn't make sense here. Duragloss AW has 5oz more than QCW and costs almost 3x less at retail pricings. If Autogeek can sell it at $5.99/bottle, then they are buying it at least $3 wholesale. OCW's cost more at wholesale then AW's retail pricings. Any info on this ?

ocw = beads,

at least for the first few weeks, i recently applied a 2nd layer of ocw to my sentra,

but up to then, it wasstill beading when it rained, but when washing, it started to sheet,

about 2 months worth of beading.

gotta find some AW

I have just found a duragloss supplier over here in the UK, and all i can say is CCP #111 is very good stuff!!!

Gave my 17 year old black 5 series BMW a going over with it and it does exactly what it says on the label!

i guess this is why i bought the gallon of ocw,

its like 30 bucks as opposed to 17 dollars for 17 oz, or something like that :nervous2:

As I said before..The Duragloss does what it says and much better....best bang for the buck..

Drive-n-shine those Bimmers look great....try to get some Aquawax and you will have the best combo going...it will bring the shine and slickness up a whole new level..

Gav...you better get some AW..lol...much better...

ED...talking to DG awhile back..they said they want to have the products in a range that will compete with the high end products...they do test their product against other products...and Jerry was laughing when he said he had a ton of product's at the lab that he tested ...

Anyone know if they will have something like ZFX coming out? It would be nice to be able to quickly layer 105.

Nothing against Optimum as they have a very nice line of polishes. The issue is one of volume. Duragloss is carried by CarQuest and has a much broader consumer base than a small niche boutique product like OCW. The smaller volume requires larger margins to make marketing feasible. In others words-due to the small volume of sales of most boutique products they have to have much higher prices. IMO DG is the best performing value product line available. Yes better products exist but for the price DG rocks.

101 is nice stuff. DG messed up and shipped my dad's stuff to my house and I got to try out the 101 on my van which has a pretty crappy finish. It cleans almost as well as ColorX but has a much better shine and more slickness to it. Let us know how long it lasts. Also I agree with topping with AW, but do that after you report back on the durablility :bigups

A quick correction, #111 has no cleaners or abrasives of any kind and can layer. Their 101 polish is the AIO or ColorX type product and cannot layer.

Good catch, 1 digit off :thx

well,

i can not access the DG website,

since it is colder out, it is not the height of detail season for me, so i figured i would just browse the site and order some stuff.

but i guess i can see if any local parts store has some.

i remember getting the car wash at the old dealer i worked at. smelled like cherries

Yakky..why have him wait..you may be waiting 4-5 months before he posts that he just put on AW...lol....have him use the AW now and then post durability ..just like zaino users do..they use z2 z5 z6 z8 and then report how durable it is...how many reports have you seen that said I have 2 coats of z5 on and I am on month 5-6 and no added z6 or z8...I am not bashing zaino by no means....but they are systems both Dg and zaino...do the system and and then see what you get for durability...

I can tell you 111 went from November to April on a friends car with no problem thru a winter and no AW...still nice and glossy and still beading fine...slickness was gone...but what will stay slick for 6 months with no adding a QD type product...

I am sure they could offer a product identical to ZFX, however considering their distribution channels (parts stores mostly at retail), I personally would doubt they would bring it to market, but could be wrong. I could only guess what most (average) people would think about such a product at the retail level. ZFX is strictly an enthusiast level product, and it would not survive at retail either. Most people simply wouldn't understand the benefits, how to use it, what it's for, and most importantly likely wouldn't pay that much for it in stores.

Plus it's all in how the products are marketed. Zaino has always strongly advocated multiple coats of their polishes (in which ZFX is beneficial). Duragloss isn't marketed at the enthusiast level, as needing multiple coats, and most users would not do multiple coats anyway. In other words, the typical/average DG customer is not going to be as fanatical (if at all) about layering as the Zaino user. Although, with the new DG 105, it is as fully capable of layering as Zaino polishes.

Didn't want to offend you or anything with just a technicality, but I was trying to prevent others from possibly getting confused, who don't know about all their polishes.

Mike :)
