Dr. Colorchip Repaired Z4

This is my personal baby. It's also my autocross/track-day car, and my daily driver. So, as you can imagine, it doesn't stay looking good for long. Anyways, I finally got sick and tired of looking at the front end of my car and thinking "wow, when did my Z get in a knife and shotgun fight?? Looks like it lost too..."

So, before my next major detail on it, I've began working on the paint chips and scratches. After reading several good reviews of the Dr. Colorchip system, I figured I'd give it a shot. They had my paint code on their site already, and I got my kit in 4 days. I was pretty amazed at that, considering I only paid for standard ground shipping.

Here are quick before and after shots of just one coat applied today. From anything more than a foot away looking straight down at the hood, you cannot see ANYTHING except the one huge chip in the fender as seen in the last pic. The major chips aren't level after one coat, but I'm confident I'll be able to make them look even better with a few more coats, letting them dry a day in between.

Needless to say, I'm very impressed with the product. The paint matches very well, and I had the hang of the process in about two minutes. I bought the big kit, and it'll probably last me the life of the car. No photoshopping in these pics besides bringing out the shadows so you can better see the defects because of the cloudy weather.

I was waiting to try Dr. Colorchip until I saw some actual results. Now I can go after some chips with confidence! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Impressive, how does it look in person. Can still see a little matching issues? May be the camera and angle.

Billie, it looks damn good! I'm really surprised.

How much time have you spent working on this car?

I wonder how durable it will be long-term. Will conventional waxes/cleaners pull the paint right out of the damaged area?

I'm debating between this and Touchup 123.

Can you breakdown the process? Is it pre clean, then wipe on the color and then wipe off excess, or something like that?

Tom, to apply one coat to the bulk of the chips/rash on m front end took somewhere in between 30-45 minutes. Not long at all. They say after 7 days it should be fully cured and durable. I made sure that I had completely cleaned and clayed the area to be sure that there were no surface contaminents to break the bond.

Evo, the process is simple. You dab paint in the chips and then immediately smear it flat with a finger (latex glove on hand). Let the paint sit for 15 minutes or so. Then put a few drops of the reducer solution on a cotton tee shirt and continuously LIGHTLY rub the area until the excess paint is gone. Then rub the area with a microfiber towel to be sure all of the reducer is gone. It's VERY easy.

I know with Touchup 123, you can apply the paint like a polish to the entire surface area.

But with Dr Colorchip, you have to touch up each individual chip?

Well you could paint an entire area and rub it all down smooth then use the reducer if you have road rash, but yes, for chips i would recommend doing each individual one for best results. It's not nearly as time consuming as it sounds.
