Don't let the dealership "Swirl mark and scratch application department" 56K Beware

To coin Deanskis' phrase "Don't let the dealership "Swirl mark and scratch application department"

Today a buddy brought over a week old Black/Black Jetta TDI. The dealer must have washed it with a corn broom then waxed it ( if you could call it that.. 1/2 the panels had missing spots .. no water bead at all) .. there was basically no gloss at all and very very shallow scratches and swirls everywhere.

I did a dawn wash to git rid of what ever they had smeared everywhere then using my woossie lil Simoniz orbital I went over the complete car slowly with #9, wiping down with alcohol/water after each panel untill I was happy.

Once happy I put on a coat of Glanz then once I had finished the windows, tires and black trim I QD'd with #51.

Camera we had wasn't great but I think you can see the results. And the important part .. he was pleased.

I see now...

Much better!

NICE WORK on resolving the "swirl mark and scratch application department" actions!

Hopefully, people will lean that dealer prep=guaranteed swirls or worse!

Glad to know an Autopia member will now educate the new owner on keeping that finish swirl free!

I bought my new car a little over a month ago and the dealer washed it at least twice. I was going to ask them not to detail it but it had already been sitting on the lot for 12 days and had already been washed. I figured since it was probably already swirled, I would have to remove the swirls anyway. And there's always driving home a clean new car. I also didn't have the time to give it a full detail, so I just let them "detail" it. When I got home, I took out the lights to inspect the damage. To my surprise, there were no swirls at all. Not a single one was to be found anywhere. Not all dealers have horrible "detailers". I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones. :nixweiss

Nice job on the Jetta BTW, it looks stunning! :up

tkr, Have you stripped all the oils on the paint yet? They're there I promise, just hidden. I thought the same thing when I got my car home, until months later when I decided to try Klasse and stripped the car all the way down and AIO'd. It looked TERRIBLE, buffer marks all over the place. Just a mess.

Jetta looks great!
