Do expensive waxes make a difference?
As stated many times in this thread, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Here's the way my eye beholds the beauty of my car. First, I am a carnuba fan. I much prefer the look over sealants. If you like the look of a sealant then you can stop reading this post. Also, I detail only my own car, which is a 2010 MB CL63. I am not a pro detailer but wash my car probably once a week and wax it probably every 3 to 4 weeks.
I am a Zymol fan and have tried Atlantique, Vintage and Royale, their three top-end, ultra-high carnuba waxes. I was about to buy Vintage (about $2k, lifetime supply) because it gave unbelievable depth, shine and clarity to the paint. It also had tremendous beading. After a rain, the car would sometimes be almost as clean as a wash (not including after driving behind another car on the highway!) I am not that concerned with durability because I wax often enough that the wax doesn't fade or wear out. Vintage was, in my opinion, about 98% perfect and paying that much for a lifetime supply was good by me.
Royale (about $8k, lifetime supply) is, in my opinion about 99.5% perfect. Even more depth, clarity and shine, etc. The color of my car is designo graphite, which is a dark metallic gray. Royale makes the metallic flakes in the paint look 3 dimensional. I've never seen any car look better, even after getting detailed by a pro. Is Royale worth the extra $6k for that 1.5% extra perfection? On a cost benefit basis, absolutely not. But I got it anyway and I am very happy with it.
So does expensive was make a difference? I think so. Is it worth it? Only you can decide. Get some samples (Zymol sells sample kits) and decide for yourself!
