Do you charge your friends to do a detail?

I would if they dropped it off to me..... if they hung out and brought beer, that's a different story.:D It all depends on how close of a friend they are if I charged them if I were in the business.

Depends, REALLY close friends I might do basic stuff or help out, but full blown multi day details and corrections I usually do for half price.

Depends. Some friends have no want to help and others want to learn. The ones who wan to learn get to pay for supplies and nothing else, the others pay a small fee.

I will be doing my best friends car coming up soon. He does not have an aptitude for this stuff. I rather have him drop the car off and leave then have him stand around distracting me, or "attempting to help." When I do his car, its free,... When I was sick in the hospital, he was by my bed side more than my own brother. All my other "friends," get charged full price... no discount. I rarely do details for friends. The few paid ones I have done have all been for friends of friends, which makes it easy for me to charge them full price.:chuckle: And usually my full price would be considered a mere pittance compared to what most people on here charge for stuff.

depends on the person. some friends are like family (like some friends parents who treat you like their own) and some are just aquaintance...

Always, my time is worth as much for them as it is for others. By doing it for free or a reduced cost, they will not value the work as much as those who have paid.

If you have a friend that is a lawyer, would they do your house contract for free?

I charged half price for my friend. He also learned a lot too but his dad washed his car a week later so that was sort of pointless. At least I got rid of 99% of the oxidation on the car though...

If that friend worth it OF COURSE.....Some of friends are doing things for me from free so i have to...For example a friend of mine is a mechanic so i never pay anything for service etc,so YES in that case the detail is for free...Also my family's cars are for free...They already done enough for me...

Close friends, I never charge them, for the rest I only charge them for the products, which is not that significant.

I rarely charge friends, as they provide some good references and usually help. If they buy the product and buy me lunch I'm happy. When I get a good paying detail, I can usually count on them to lend if hand, too.

My best friend will be gettin his cars detailed for free, he is like a brother to me, my immidiate family gets their cars takin care of for free, I dont see how I can charge my mother, all other friends will get a deal but not free

I hardly *ever* do a vehicle for somebody else, but when I do it's not something I want to be paid for. On very rare occasions I've let friends reimburse me for materials, but as far as my time/effort, nah...in my view friends do things for each other, exchange gifts, and otherwise do stuff without cash changing hands.

If I were a pro that'd be different. In that case "business is business" and I wouldn't offer discounts or anything other special treatment. I've known a lot of people who did a lot of business with close friends; they were always happiest doing it that way and it seems to work best for me too.

i'll tell you the truth, its not worth it to do friends cars from my experience. I have done over 15 free, or next to free (20-50) full exterior correction details taking over 8 hours and as much as 15 hours and NOT ONE of them has lead me to more business from anyone where I charged retail pricing; only more cheap work as "thats all i want to spend"

So from here on out its 1/2 price only, no more free work

family is free, friends are not. Heck, even my uncle wont NOT pay me...lol I spent over 12 hours on his dodge ram (4 hours claying alone) and he insisted on paying me - 200 bucks! Thing is he used to have a detail business back in the 90's and 150 back then was a lot for exterior work!

I may do one at no charge for a girlfriend or maybe even a parent, but never would I do something at anything other than full hourly rate for anyone else.
