Do you charge your friends to do a detail?

Kind of depends. One friend of mine will take me out on his boat several times a year. He has never let me pay for gas (and this boat holds alot) and often times if we grab some lunch or dinner he insists on picking up the tab (he does pretty well). If I were to ever detail his truck, without question it would be a freebie.

Same goes for another friend (who also does well). I wouldn't feel right charging him since he always insists on paying whenever we go somewhere.

Well like many others have said, depends on the friend.. But when I have detailed friends cars, they have always been there with me and it has always been a pretty basic detail, a few hours at the most.. I might get a dinner and a few beers as a reward. And I am happy with that.. :)

One friend comes and washes his car with me now and then, mostly in the winter since he doesn't have a heated garage like I do. And I do a basic polish and wax to his car every spring. He helps me with minor computer problems at home and at work also, for free, so it's a win win.

Either I charge the like $20 bucks or I let them take me out to lunch or dinner either way its a lose lose

the only people I wont charge are family and my gf...everyone else...yeah..pay me. my time is valuable and I am not going to use my day taking care of your car because your lazy for free.:p

It *does* occur to me that the only people whose cars I do are physically incapable of doing it themselves. Anybody else can borrow my stuff and do it themselves.

Agreed. I charge them less if they use me often. But the first time on a full Detail/correction, I try to stay close to my standard!
