Do Hi temp Levelers contain Fillers?

Brought a new 1200W Halogen so I could move the 1000W around the car in the garage while working.

Was working tonite on the car (following the advice from a thread here that working in the garage at night really lets the Hallogens show imperfections on the panels)

Using my Dewalt 849 and a light cut pad @ 1800 rpm's I would use HI-Temp HCL on a section at a time of a panel followed by the LCL the same way (to remove any buffer marks or Halograms).

When I'm done polishing I usually hit the panels with either Final Klean (Dupont) or use a Sealer from the local Auto Body supply store which has cleaners.

And to my amazement the panels look like I never did anything to them. The gloss is still there but the smooth appearence is gone and the swirls are still there.

So I'm asking if anyone else has noticed this when using these products or if they do contain fillers?

Orbital or Rotary? Hi-Temp's levelers do not contain fillers. Using the Heavy Cut, followed by the light cut should remove most defects, and produce a nice shine. My guess is the halogen light is highlighting things you would normally not see.

Thanks brwill2005 for the reply. The Dewalt 849 a Rotary.

You are right though, when I'm done with that combo those panels look liked they've already been waxed. I hope your right about the Halogen's too.

Yeah 1800 is about 100 over the reccommended speed. I also noticed that they say to use 45-50 lbs of pressure.

Maybe I need to "lean" on it some, I've just been letting the machine run under it's own weight.

What you want is "eye perfect" (real world) polishing. If you remove the halogen lights and take it in the sun this is what you and everyone else sees, right? So if that looks good then you have done your job.

How many people are walking around inspecting paint with 1000 watt halogen lights?

Reminds me of one detailer friend in my town who had a customer that kept calling him out because of "scratches" my detailer friend was not removing. So my friend went twice to this guys house and re-polished the car. Third time my friend said I don't see anything, it looks great! His customer then pulls out a 30x magnification loop and says "Here, look at them through this, they're everywhere!"

My friend got the paint "eye perfect" or "real world perfect", not "microscopic pefect".

Anthony, I'm relieved to hear that from you. :up

I'm glad I'm away from my halogens and incandescents for the time being. :o I find myself frowning if I use them for too long :o ;)
