Disappointed with 303. Any suggestions?

I must admit, I have been pretty disappointed with 303 Protectant since using it in my X5. It has a bit too much shine for my taste, and its kind of slick. Since the dash on the X5 is pretty plasticy, do you have any suggestions?



Also, how the heck do you remove this stuff? Woolite/Water?

Optimum protectant plus works nicely and provides a matte finish. You might try it, Danase.com and exceldetail.com both have good prices on their products.
 
I wouldnt give up on 303. It truelly is a class protectant. Next time dampen a MF, spray the 303 on it, then wipe in. It will cut down on what little sheen it does contain.
 
I agree with Patrick, its a good product. I didn't like it at first, but I started using less product and I began to quickly buff off any excess with a microfiber towel. This helps to keep the shine down.



I think I will make a switch to the Optimum Protectant Plus. My friend uses it and really likes it and the price is much better compared to the 303 ($29.99 or OPP vs. $59.99 for 303 for a gallon).
 
i also use 303 w/ a damp MF...helps prevent streaking and gives a good even layer on whatever i'm treating. nice matte finish as well. definitely try that before giving up on it...maybe follow with a dry MF to take off excess.

That's true pricewise. That tends to be the case when comparing Optimum to most other brands on a cost/quality/effectiveness scale. As Patrick said though, you might try applying the 303 protectant in a different way. I love my 303 spot remover, great stuff, and a great company.

Would this also cut down on the slickness? My wife hand slipped and broke her nail trying to close the door while getting into the car.:nixweiss

Thats my number 2!

They are both very very good, with subtle differences. I think the 303, when used properly is one of those products that you cant tell is even there....Im not saying you didnt use it properly, as I dont know exactly what you put it on. If its on a smooth plastic surface, you should rewipe with a dry MF. Likewise with OP+.

303 is my favorite protectant and I hate a shiny dash. I just apply 303 with a foam applicator and after letting it soak in for 5-10 minutes I buff off the excess with a clean MF for a nice matte sheen.

This made me chuckle...Many of you might not understand or remember the song by "Naughty by Nature" but I never thought OPP would ever mean Optimum Protectant Plus.

If you don't want any shine, Klasse VRLP (vinyl, rubber leather plastic) is really matte, almost flat. Doesn't outgas and haze the insides of windshield, lasts at least 6 months (a year if used for the interior), doesn't attract dust, and really good at reconditioning faded dashes, not that you have that problem. It's an outstanding cleaner too.

I agree, this product leaves no shine at all... One of the best products for a clean and matte finish...
 
You could dilute 303 50% with water and go from there, to find a good solution for you.

Most of the time i wet a MF with water, totally wring it out and then spray a good amount of 303 on it. Might dilute it about 4:1 and then go about wiping a clean interior down.

A final dry MF wipe might be needed.

Is this still true with the "new" version of VRLP? From other posts I've read here I gathered it has been changed and isn't that much different from 303 or other similar products now.
