Detailers Insurance

Hello all, I'm new and I love the site, and I'm not the best at navigating forums..so I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong area. Anyway I've been detailing out of my garage for about 5 years and I'm out growing the place. At this point in time, I'd like to go legit with the business and I'm now sure how to go about finding an insurance provider. I've looked into this already and I want a $1,000,000 in liability and "garage keepers" for transport, if anyway can shoot me some decent companies and a general idea of the rates I would be very thankful. Thanks in advance, -Sean

The rates are directly related to your location, Risk factors, Credit, etc etc.. So any numbers we toss out will have very little to do with your situation. But for reference sake I have State Farm with half a million liablity with the garage keepers and everything else that comes with the goodies and I pay about $1200/yr for it. I'm due for a price break here in a couple of months for continuious service for 2 years now.

Gotcha, So I guess the best thing I can do is just call most major insurance providers and see what they can offer myself

I have an excellent Auto/Home/Life Insurance agent, who got me excellent rates on Liability for my detailing. Why don't you contact your "normal" insurance agent and talk to him about it. Mine works right down the street, and is a really good agent.

Just an example....when I switched out my car insurance from company "X" to his company ( a well recognized company), he told me that there were some items I didn't need included in my insurance, as well as helping me with Seasonal Insurance for my convertible, and being able to lower my deductible to $250 on all vehicle policies and saved me around $950.00 a year.

I am getting about 2200 per year...100k per vehicle, 1 mil. liability, and 25k property insurance for my business property. Deduct. will be $500.

I guess things are cheaper in the midwest, 1200.00 for garage keepers?. Now of course it depends on what you are working on btw I pay $3,200 a year but I have 1.75 mil of aggregate, fire, covered if I do mobile etc.... also If I work on something over 300,000.00 I have to call my agent as well.

Anyone shopping for Insurance, make sure to get a quote from Travelers. We're very competitive. Also, don't just go with the cheapest premium you can. Ask to compare what each companies policies/coverages are in respect to making a claim. Many companies will only utilize aftermarket parts and/or do betterment which means you the insurer would pay out of pocket if your client's car isn't returned back to the condition it was in prior to the loss.

Check to see if Erie Insurance is in your state. A very good company and by far the cheapest insurance I found. I was paying around $475 a year for top coverage when I had my carpet cleaning business.

Be careful with Erie. I have my homeowners, 3 cars, a trailer, and some other personal policies with them. They were by far the cheapest when my wife and I got married several years ago and were shopping.

We filed a claim with them a few years ago when our car was struck by lightening, and were jerked around badly, and treated poorly.

Recently a teenage kid ran a stop sign, and hit my wife. While he was at fault, and his insurance immediately agreed to pay for everything, Erie is still acting as mediator. I chose in the beginning to have Erie mediate, because they offer a lifetime warranty on repairs, whereas the other party's insurance does not. In this case, Erie pays for everything, and the other company has agreed to reimburse Erie for all expenses. Well, the way Erie has treated us with this incident, we will definitely be looking to change after the car is repaired. You would think we were the at fault party with the way they talk to us on the phone...it's pathetic.

I agree, Erie dropped my friends coverage after a minor accident. why?! -2 years earlier she filed a claim for a flooded car. 2 claims over 3 years = dropped.

Ironically, she had received a "good driver's certificate" from Erie by mail a week before the accident.

I roll with State farm auto life and Travalers for business -2 mill aggregate 30k per car for 1100 a year.

I never did have to file a claim so maybe I got lucky. Good info, thx.

Just FYI.....

If you operate a Mobile Business and you DO NOT drive the Customers vehicle(s), you can get a $1 million Policy, $250 deductible, and some others coverages with an Insurance Company that primarily focuses on Home Based businesses!

I paid $362.00 for the whole year!

This is not an umbrella policy, this is true, Commercial Liability Coverage!

I use to have Garage keepers through Safeco, and I paid $731 for the year, and prior to them I was with a Co. called Burlington and I paid around $900 for the year.....

Anyhow.....if anyone wants the info to this company, PM me and I will send it over to you, it doesn't hurt to check them out, especially if you can get the same coverages you currently have for 1/3 to 1/4 of your current cost....

This astounds me! Absolutely opposite from all my Erie experiences. Had my first claim with a 2-week old drivers license when I was 16... my fault. Handled prompty and fairly without problem. 6 months later I totalled the car, other driver's fault. Now 37 yrs later I'm still with them due to their exemplary handling of the ocasional claim, no surcharges for the occasional speeding ticket. Had a flooded basement last year covered by Erie's Homeowner's policy and it was handled so well I actually made a buck or two!

I know a lot of things can be attributed to an agent or claims adjuster.... maybe I've just had the right ones.

I just got a quote from NC Farm Beauru and its $598/yr.

75k/car

300k/liability

The coverage per car is low, but my agent told me if I am working on a car that is an exotic type or very expensive (more so than the coverage I have) then to just call and let him know.
