Detailed Alfa V6

Today I finally started detailing the engine bay on my Alfa Romeo Milano racecar. Attached is a picture before I cleaned up for the day. I am kinda disappointed, because the engine degreaser I used ruined the hi-temp silver paint I had put on the valve covers... oh well, I was planning on powdercoating them red anyway ;)

The specifics (on the engine)

-3.0L 12v SOHC All aluminum V6

-Ported & Polished heads (Stage III)

-High rev valve springs

-Autodelta cams (just a little milder than a full race cam)

-JetHot coated Equal length tubular headers (with side exit exhaust, no cat)

-10.5:1 compression pistons

-Modified fuel & ignition computers

-Larger Air Flow Meter w/ K&N cone (I'm working on a heat shield stil)

-Magnecore 8.5mm plug wires (no horsepower gain, but they look cool! :D )

-Redline 10w40 synthetic oil

And here are some pictures of the rather sparse interior ;)

I run the with the Alfa Romeo Owner's of Southern California Club(AROSC). We run on most of the local road courses like Willow Springs International Raceway, Buttonwillow Raceway Park, California Speedway (infield road course), Laguna Seca, etc. So far I have just been time trialing, no actual wheel-to-wheel racing... one more event to go and I'll have my race license. My first race in the "Alfa Cup" will be at Laguna Seca in November :D

I'm not too big on going to the drag strip (car really just isn't built for that purpose)... so I don't have an official 1/4 mi run, but according to g-tech pro it should run around 14 seconds (sorry, I can't remember the trap speed).

Great stuff

Have you investigated a cool air system to the K&N, to my mind there is always to much heat inside the engine bay, I cannot imagine how hot it gets on the track.

Steven,

I'm currently working on making a heat shield to isolate the filter from the hot engine compartment air. I originally wanted to run a pipe down into the fender, but it would've blocked one of my front brake ducts. I wanted to keep the factory air box, as it does a fine job of keeping heat way from the intake air... but unfortunately it was not possible to adapt the larger AFM to the box. When I go to the track the headlights are replaced by large air ducts that direct cold air into the engine compartment. Hopefully with the heat shield and headlight ducts I should be able to get the intake temp down.

That engine looks killer! Bout time someone built somthing a little different! Is that side exhaust I see? I love it. :p

Thanks 912! I really like the fact that the car is so unique... it turns heads because noone can ever figure out what the heck it is ;) Yep, thats a side exhaust... the stock exhaust ran very close to the passenger side rear brake caliper and used to cause problems, so I moved it (the rear brakes are inboard, on either side of the diff) :)

Here's another video for all to enjoy... so you can hear that Alfa V6 scream!

Looks good Chip! Guess I outta get on out there and shoot my GTV6 engine.....not as nice as your Milano but no one down here in S Georgia knows what it is either!

"I thought all Alpha Romeros were convertibles"

The reason the covers are off is because I am about to change the timing belt & tensioner. I had an oil leak (fixed now) and it soaked the belt so I'd rather be on the safe side and change it... I will definitely be putting the covers back on when I'm done!
