My work has NEVER shut down, but it is and will be for the next what ever ! Ominous clouds on the horizon !

I sanitized darn near 70,000 sf. and then bailed.
Home now to shelter in place, while I`m still healthy.
Can`t shake this creepy feeling.....Gotta Detail 2 vehicles that will be a great way to weather this storm !

I work in the grocery industry, (delivery driver) so we won`t shut down, which is good news for me that we can still pay bills. I do that 3 days a week, and run my business 3-4 days a week. Detailing work is starting to slow now, I was booked out about 6 weeks, but now am getting cancellations. My wife and daughter both work in the medical field, so they will both keep working, but even they have seen it slowing down, as people won`t even go to the Dr. for regular appointments. My son is in law enforcement, so he`ll keep working, but his college classes have been cancelled so he`s bummed about that. What encourages me is the reaction we see from the medical field, you don`t see any of them panicking, Dr`s, nurses, aids, etc. They are taking it seriously but you don`t see them running out trying to hoard all they can. So this tells me to take precautions, but don`t freak out, this will pass, they will figure out a vaccine or treatment, stay calm and let them do their job.

Now as far as detailing goes, I use gloves all the time anyway. This is a practice we all should be doing to not only protect us from the virus, but also from the chemicals we use. The old saying "If it`s on you, it`s in you" rings true. I personally don`t want the heavy cleaners, or dressings in my system, who knows what kind of long term effect they can have. I let my customers know this as well. I also wipe down critical areas with a commercial grade disinfectant when I`m done with the vehicle, ie; door handles, steering wheel, gear shifter, etc. I let them know these areas may not have the same appearance, but they are clean and sanitized, this seems to be appreciated. Trying to capitalize on the situation I may put out an ad to clean and sanitize for a special cut rate. I may not make a pile of money, but it may keep me busy, and the more my name is mentioned the more people will remember me when things get back to normal.
 
While I`m trying to be -informed- as much as possible, I`m trying to not read up CV 19 stuff as well. Just planning on the hunker down as we go into lock down, being located in the -usa epicenter- of it all.

I`ll have to read past replies, on ozone generators, uv, etc that you guys have mentioned.
A quick question as I really don`t know ! While I`ve been wearing gloves when needing to go out, remove gloves before I touch the door handle, and then purel the hands before I even touch the steering wheel. If I fill up a small 4 oz spray bottle with alcohol, and just mist it as part of my process - will this dry out the steering wheel prematurely ?

That`s good IMO..possible overkill to Purel since you had the gloves on, and *that`s they way I play it too*. IMO, in this case, a little "overkill" deserves those scare-quotes as it`s better to be safe than sorry (as long as you have plenty of Hand Sanitizer, otherwise save it for when you don`t have the gloves on).

IME that`s so unpredictable that you oughta err on the side of caution there too. I *NEVER* touch leather stuff until the Hand Sanitizer has flashed off. Never. Alcohol can indeed do serious damage and some wheels are incredibly pricey. So I sure wouldn`t put the Hand Sanitizer ingredient that`s responsible for that (potential) damage directly on the surface in question.

There`s "overkill", then there`s overkill (no scare-quotes), and then there`s simply overdoing a good thing...I`d put that final step in that last category and just keep doing the gloves/Sanitizer. And if you still want additional peace-of-mind, carry some kind of Interior Cleaner and wipe down the wheel/door handle/keys/seatbelt/etc. with that, and do it really *vigorously* since you`re relying more on mechanical cleaning than chemical (i.e., Sanitizer) action.

Have drivers started refusing to work?

The second tier problem is that trucks are breaking down and parts are scarce. Some companies are already having to rob parts off of other trucks just to keep going.

I have been struggling to evaluate any bias or agenda in information shared from this source. I do need to preface that the COVID-19 info is credible, not sure about the financial markets as I don`t know that much about the financial markets. The STEM science topics are my greatest interest. Be super vigilant in creating your own thoughts with this source. I would also like to note that this source does validate information that DR. John Campbell is sharing, this is one way I am evaluating credibility.

One aspect that NO ONE is talking about is the social isolation that this pandemic is creating and that this might become a "social norm". By that I mean that if going to public school or college can be done successfully from home now, why not all the time. Or if business work gets done effectively from home, why not all the time. Or if I can get my food without having to go out, why not do this all the time. Then you no longer have to met face-to-face and deal with all the social issues associated with it; no "other" nationality or race issues or what-the-heck-are-you-wearing wardrobe or someone else`s judgement about my appearance. My texting to communicate is "perfectly acceptable" even if my word usage and spelling is not, or consists of a bunch of emojies and acronyms. YOU stay in your world and I`ll stay in mine. My religion and my"god" and my savior is my phone, computer, and technology (and the government payout!). We solve one problem or minimize its effects (isolation to stem the spread of a pandemic), but create a whole new set of social psychological problems that will linger or become "socially acceptable" long after the pandemic is gone
 
Lonnie, I thought this might lead to more "touchless" shopping, the PIN pads with the proximity feature, all self-checkout, the "no-checkout" stores, and maybe normalize home grocery delivery, I hadn`t taken it as far in my thought process as no more "real" schools, more people working from home all the time, etc. Thanks for making us think.

I kind of like the idea of social isolation (apart from internet forums, of course!)...kind of like that movie with John Malkovich, what was that called? Oh yeah, Making Mr. Right.

I haven`t heard of anyone refusing to work, they did lay off some new trainees. The company put all the drivers on a 4 day week, which doesn`t hurt me since I`m on a 3 day. We have a pretty good parts stockpile I think, our mechanics are pretty resourceful as well.

Another conundrum I find myself in is, I am on the cusp of buying a newer mobile detailing rig. The 2 vehicles I`m looking at keep going down in price, but is it a good move at the moment? What is the future going to look like for detailing? If this virus lasts a long time it could mean rough times for everyone.
 
Ray of hope. Went to Walmart looking for distilled water for my Cpap machine..... none here either but lots of gallons of Spring water. But coming in the store you saw every customer walking around with a package of toilet paper.
I went back and they were cases of it with a sign “one per customer”. Great, I grabbed one for my fellow local detail pals who texted me last night he was low.... keep him in mind if I see some.

Today I read an article by the paper industry claiming a family of two will use 4.5 rolls a week. My wife and I barely use two rolls of the 450 sheet Costco rolls a week. I guess we are “under achievers”! They did say they are producing 120% of normal usage for this time of year.
I do need to visit Costco for a car battery for my C7. The original is now 6 years old. The locals here in AZ claim a battery craps out at the 3 year mark from the heat. We’ll see if battery hoarding has started. 😉
 
My batteries crap out at around 2 and a half. Fortunately I just got one a few weeks ago. If my other two go, I’m just gonna let them sit til batteries become available again
 
Can someone explain to me, WHY all the paper product hording?

Had to make a Wally run to get a new mouse (computer), just walked around and there is/was NO paper products. Paper plates, computer paper, even the `blue paper` shop towels!

I need to find my Battery Tender, I also need to get a charging rotation implemented. I haven`t started one of the cars in just over a week.
 
You should probably be ok. My cars are on Battery Tenders and they still don’t last 3 years. It’s the high heat here that kills them. Agh.
