DA Microfiber System....Chevy Nomad...

Hi All,

I am not new to the car detailing thing (certainly no expert) and am fanatical about the finish (like everyone else here). I just picked up my new 2001 Z06 in millenium yellow. The paint is in pretty good shape considering it is a new car but it is also almost a year old which means some fool has already had his or her hand in washing it improperly etc.

I have used Zaino on my previous cars with good results but there has to be a better system out there. It seems zaino has a cult like following so I am hopeful it is not the case here. Please don't misinterpret my statement I am just itching to try something different. If I should stick with the Z please let me know.

I have a few minor very light scratches and some "swirls" for lack of a better term. My intention was to clay the surface, use a polish with my Porter cable to remove the surface imperfections and then wax. My question really stems around which polish. I don't want something very abrasive because I truly beleive it will be overkill. I have used Griots mildest machine polish before with good results on a different car but I'd like some opinions or suggestions as there may be something better. I am also reading super things about the Pinnacle Soverign and would like to try that as well. WOuld their polish work well with my PC?

Any opinions, comments or suggestions welcome. If you have any other products you'd like to recommend I'm all ears.

Thanks for the time.

Joe

Just kidding :D.

OK, I just had to say that. I'm a PC newbie so I will let the knowledgeable ones answer that question.

Here's my take though:
Problem is if you have light scratches a swirl remover might not even be enough. If you only have ever-so light swirls and a couple of light scratches, polish out the scratches by hand with whatever you prefer and after you clay go for it with the PC and Pinnacle PCL or P21S PCL. Both are highly recommended. PCL = Paint Cleansing Lotion :).

Welcome to the best detailing forum around!:xyxthumbs

Here you can see the left half started and the right side is untouched.

Beautiful work with deep reflections.
What did you use as a finishing step? Did you use the finishing wax, or something like M205 or PO85RD?

DA Compound on the Griot's DA with a MF Cutting pad, then a finishing MF pad with the Finishing Wax. I absolutely love this system :D

Beautiful job - car looks fabulous!!

As part of your process, do you remove the badges to polish or do you work around them in place ?

Nick your going to make me buy this system. You are popping out the jaw dropping works of art with it.

LOL! You will not regret it!

I usually just work around them with the 3" MF Cutting pads on either the Metabo or Griots 3" machine. 99% of the time I can get everything taken care of without having to remove anything. The one you pictured was never removed. I just worked around it.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!!

great work on a great car....seems you spent a lot of time taping off with all that beautiful chrome on it...

Not really. That's another great thing about these pads, you can get right up against chrome or runner and not really have to worry about any damage. There is more control using these pads, and you're able to keep things more localized than with traditional methods of paint correction.

Although some tape was used, not nearly the amount of past methods.

Absolutely beautiful job! Did you get to leave your business card in the car for the auction? I wonder what the new owner would have thought if he saw the before pics.
