Customers who complain or think they know everything

ever get a customer that thinks they know eveything but is completly wrong, or do you ever get someone who tries to correct you or alter your process.

I had a guy tell me i better not use mild Megs clay on his car because it would mess up the paint severly


:mad::mad::mad: some people just need to take a hint.
 
I had a customer last fall that I NEVER want back!

He brought me a 2008 black Chevy Tahoe. He was pretty anal about keeping it clean, but it had substantial swirl marks.

I used M105 with PC & orange pad... followed by M205 w/PC white pad.

The truck looked fantastic!

Well, he brought it back 3 TIMES in the next two weeks!!!

He was pointing out "swirls", "scratches", "hazing", etc. I swear I couldn't see them, even under the scrutiny of halogens! But I complied. Hit them again with M205.

I guess he was happy after that, but I never want to see him again!:cursing:

Most of my clients are good to work for even the picky ones, I view it more as a challenge and I always let them know I'm open to any criticism as I'd rather them be happy then complain behind my back.

The one's I really can't stand are the ones that call and say "I want it to look good, but it's not a show car"..... ?? :out:

I have one guy who never, ever washes his car. All he wants me to do is the interior. He always says... "You can wash it if you want to, but I ain't payin' you for it."

Customer gets what he wants. It stays dirty.

Wow, that's a new one to me..... too me that's like eating salads and health food all the time but never bathing.:D
 
I do a few family situation - like the husband/wife and kids cars. One - folks I've known for over 35 years, I do the guy's 4Runner and van, his daughter's TL and did the wife's new Accord a few times - then she started going to the tunnel of swirls - no explanation... and I wonder why, and if I should ask?
 
Yeah, but it won't take long for that wimpy Honda paint to start looking like 30 year old work truck. She'll learn!
 
I may have you all beat. Got a referral from the shop that does my window tinting. She has a guy w/ multiple vehicles that need them detailed. I call the guy and find out he wants complete details on all his vehicles:
2006 Nissan Titan Crew Cab PU
2007 Toyota 4Runner
2005 BMW M3 convertible (pale yellow, ugh)
2006 Porsche Boxster S Convertible

So I schedule him the whole weekend. Show up at the house and spend some time w/ him and his vehicles. I start to show him things that can be done like clay, polish etc. All his cars had some shine, but the finishes were 10-footers, not real great up close. He promptly informs me he is a chemist and that none of the products I use are any good. He has the only thing he thinks will work correctly and I will be using that, and definitely no buffer. So I'm thinking it's some nuclear sealant he and his geek friends cooked up in the lab, right? NOPE! It's NU-FINISH. Remember the commercials from the 80's.... "this car was in a junkyard and now it's had 52 car washes and the water still beads". He gave me a 30 minute dissertation on how nothing has ever been made to surpass this product.Director

Customer is always right so I bit my tongue and smiled as I used this for all 4 exteriors. They did have some shine when I left but boy they really could have used some TLC w/ my "inferior" products and a buffer. What a windbag. It was worth it though as it was a $800 weekend! At that price I'll wear a NU-FINISH shirt while I'm doing it!

HMMM...I wonder if that guys water is still beading..................:out:

$800? And he supplied the product? That's kinda like bringing sand to the beach. Where do I get my free NU Finish T-shirt? :D Nice work not arguing.

Will he pay you for those 52 washes? :D
 
Believe me, it was a real test not to argue, especially while he was telling me the scientific properties of waxes and polishes and why they had inferior molecules.

And in the end he was happy w/ the all the jobs, and that's really the goal

Haha! I just retired from 32 years as a construction manager with a large Engineering/construction company. About 2000 of the 3000 employees are engineers.

I've detailed a few of their vehicles... and, believe me, I know EXACTLY where you're coming from!!!:D:D:D

Just work with 2000 engineers for over 30 years. You become very patient! (But you never get used to it!!! LOL) :D ;) :D ;)
