Collinite can look good!

I got my daily driver ready for winter this past weekend. HEres what I did:

NXT wash

Megs overspray clay

EX-p by pc on 5 with polishing pad

collinite 476s by pc on 4 with gray wax pad

The car was polished not to long ago and the surfacew was still in great shape. I also cleaned up the interior and conditioned the seats with Lexol (I didnt feel like ordering anything this late in the year).

Looks very nice.

I am thinking about Zaino topped with Collinite for the ultimate winter protection.

How was the application/removal of the Collinite?

I have 5 coats of Klasse SG topped with Megs #16. I am thinking of topping with Collinite Insulator Wax.

Collinite is very durable stuff! I may out on a second coat, although Im trying to talk myself into leaving it as is to see how long it will last. In the summer I got 3+ months out EX-P x2 by itself on this same car. Collintie over SG or Zaino would for sure be an all winter + protection plan. I thought about it but dont feel like ordering more products this late in the year since Im just about done detailing until spring. :-(

Oh yah, please ignore the oil stain on the driveway. I had a little "accident" the day before I took these pics.

Spilchy has suggested AIO followed by Collinite IW. I tried that combo on my daily driver a few months ago and it's still holding up nicely. The look was excellent and a few people even questionned me about what I had done to the old car.

I agree! I started using Collinite last year..it may not be the very best looking wax, but it does keep it's look for a long time. I use both insulator and 476..iI usually use IW on the lower panels..it's very easy to apply..I save the hard wax for the flat surfaces. I also use IW on the rims.

How do you apply the 476 by PC? The tin can is small......

Small spatula and spread it like butter on the pad.

Collinite is like kryptonite when it comes to removing it. But, I think it's worth it. I have Tropi-Care TC-3 x2 with Collinite topping it (And recently Optimum Spray Wax) and I think both cars look fantastic. Collinite has definitely found it's way into my rotation even if it is a pain to remove.

Thanks JayC! I have seen that a lot of the folks here report it as being hard to remove. How hard exactly? Would a PC make the removal easier? I use one of those 10" cheap rotaries with terry bonnets to remove most of the wax if its a difficult product, then a final inspection with MF (turtle wax bonnets by the way, very soft and plush) If you have tried the mothers cleaner carnauba wax, you know it is hard to remove and the buffer makes short work of it.

I guess I'l have to try in a panel and see how hard to remove it is.

I guess I am spamming ;)

Is the durability of collinite compromised by using it as a topper, instead of using it directly into the paint? Certain product whose name starts with "Z" lasts if an only if the paint is extremely clean and no other products are below it..... :p This obviously suggest bonding wit the paint?

Would the 476S bond properly to another wax / sealante below it? Could I apply it over nanowax, NXT or Turtle ultra without compromising its durability?

By the way, nice work LightngSVT !

I would assume you could use Collinite either way. I have it topping Tropi-Care TC-3 but have tested it on panels before by itself. Keep in mind that preperation is key so if you don't do the prep work, you probably won't get the durability (or results) that you're after.

I remove Collinite by placing a MF flat on the paint, putting the PC on top of it and running it on about speed 5. This will get the majority of the wax off. The rest you just have to use elbow grease. I didn't notice using a QD helped aid in removal.

:up :up for Collinite! I have been using the 476s recently since I heard it has a tad more durability.

I am not certain about less durability on top of a sealant or other product as opposed to applying the wax on by itself. I have used AIO and traditional glazes underneath (I like VM). I never really monitored durability in that regard.

Any wax can make your paint look great. It's all in the prep! Think about it, you spend more time prepping (clay, multiple polishing combos, etc...) your paint than you do waxing it.

Holy huge .jpg Batman! I'd love to see the pictures but if I wait on the download, I'll miss Christmas. I'll take your word that the car looks great. ;)

I guess I am just going to have to force myself to take a day off to get broadband.

I applied #476s with a damp MF applicator & used the WOWO method but I used the PC to take the residue off. Apply it thin or you'll need a belt sander to take it off.

I layed a Miracle MF from Autogeek on the hood & used a std. 6" LC pad just as a cushion & ran the PC at 3.5. At first, the towel just vibrated away but when it started to "pinwheel" I knew that area was clean & I moved on.

Do large panels in quarters & the WOWO method works.

I was applying this over 3 layers of FMJ so I didn't see any need to work the #476s by applying it with a PC but taking it off was a breeze.

The "trap a MF towel" method even worked pretty well on the sides 'cause the LC pad grabbed the MF towel almost like really weak velcro.

I applied a second layer of #476s 2 days later and it went on easier than the first layer & taking it off with a PC was even easier.

A third layer was applied last weekend 'cause the car was washed Friday, it rained Saturday (garaged) and I was bored.

May not make the silver metallic pop like LS or Natty's but it looks great. Durability? Only time, snow, and salt will tell.

looks nice, but get rid of the door gaurd things

it looks better with them off. check here for a how to for removing them. i would avoid the goo gone though.

Sorry about that dial up users. I jsut resized the pics to a much more dialup friendly size.

Dakmis, I think Ill leave the moldings on. I bought this car as a daily driver, not a show car (eventhough I try and keep it as nice as possible) so it is in parking lots everyday unfortunately. Im sure it would be easier to wash and polish without them there, but they dont bother me at all. The one thing I would like to do is put a nice set of anthracite finished 17's on the car though.

Now I can see the pics! Very nice, the paint has a nice wet glow.

Update us occasionally with durability results.
