Collinite 845 vs. 476s

Agree. Both are good in terms of both looks and durability, but the 845 leans toward looks, and the 476 toward durability.

The rest of the Collinite fans will chime in later.... but even the 845 will still be barely breaking a sweat when the majority of other products are already in life support.....



476 last for me 5-8 months, depending in conditions.

845 lasts 4-6 months, also depending in conditions. 845 tends to withstand heat better.

I get visible beading for 2 months on wheels with 845-it might protect longer tho considering what it was originally designed for
 
Does Collinite 845 or 476s need a base such as AIO to get many months of durability or can it be applied without a base and still bead for many months?



Also, what other AIO type products would you recommend to use under either Collinite?

Anything OTC?

I've used Collinite 476S over all sorts of things, and also over clean (but bare) paint. Never any problems at all. I've always suspected (but have no proof :o ) that 476S would be less particular about what it's applied over than 845 just because of how paste waxes generally behave.



Afraid I'm not much help with OTC products; I generally use 476S over 1Z WPS/MP, Autoglym SRP (really like this particular combo for some reason), and other such stuff. I have used it over cleaner waxes with pretty good results, so that might be an OTC way to go. Or, assuming you don't have any marring to remove, you could use Meg's Deep Crystal Steps 1 & 2 and top with Collinite. Really, I'd just pick the product that'll do whatever needs done, and then just put the Collinite on top of it.
 
I'm using IW over Mothers sywaxFX and it looks really good. Only had it on for about three weeks but after several days of rain and one wash it still beads like crazy. Seems to keep the car clean after the rain too.
 
It is available OTC, mainly on the marine/boat care aisles (for example AAP).



If you will, you can try Collinite's own prewax cleaner (#840), or AIO cleaner waxes (#126 & #73).
 
I found 845 at Advance Auto Parts, and it was in the Marine section. You can't find it in all of their stores from my experience though. You can go to their website and see if the stores near you have it in stock.

Just a paint cleaner for maximum durability (Mother prewax cleaner or Megs cleaner)

A glaze for enhanced look. I found that it lasts the longest if applied to just clean paint (unless the base is at least as durable, such as the Z or KSG)
 
Do either the 476s or 845 have cleaners in them like cleaner wax. I've notice that some people have mentioned that they last long time. Almost seems like they have something else in them besides caranuba. Does anyone know what category they fall under? Polymer? Acrylic? Super Caranuba (joke)?



I mean if some are stating that 476s and 845 can last 4-8 months (based on conditions) that sounds more like a sealant's durability.

Is Mothers Prewax cleaner and Mothers cleaner wax the same product?
 
845 was originally designed for high power line insulators- I would think that it would have some high temp resins or something in it. I'd think collinite would try to keep it a trade secret. You could ask for a MSDS sheet-most reputable manufactureres will give them out-something that some boutique companies resist-or so I've heard.
 
That's right, there's some other component in 845 that makes it such a durable liquid. I read about it once on another detailing forum but I don't remember any details. "Resin" sounds right, but then that's a very broad category.



Neither the 476S or the 845 have cleaners in them, they're "straight waxes".
