Lots of people seem to like her. But IMO her largest audience demographic is the 9-12 y/o girl. Basing that on the lyric content (or lack thereof) of her songs. Also note her songs do NOT fit the country music genre (let Disney play her). She like C.U. has often demonstrated pitch problems while performing live (witness her attempt at a duet with Stevie Nicks). She and C.U. also share an amazing lack of rhythm while attempting to dance.

There is music that I definitely don't care for, but as far as "new country crap", I vividly remember the same response when Bocephus rolled onto the scene. And the only music I hear where the songs are all the same are Taylor's. Yeah, the subject of drinkin' gets quite a bit of coverage, but hey that has always been so. George, Merle, Hank all covered that topic pretty well, and brother those boys are country music.

Yep, I miss Trisha. A true sweet songbird, and easy on the eyes as well. Blake is pretty darned good in my book... in fact his current single God Gave Me You is outstanding and hits pretty close to home for me.

I like several cuts by the Zac Brown band, but that cap just bugs the cr@p outta me.

George Strait is very good country, and why shouldn't he be, he is a native son. Of course I still hold a bit of a grudge for his song The Chair One of my very least favorites.

Gotta love Marty, though many didn't. "His hair's too long, he ain't country"

I've seen the video, still doesn't put her into the "best of the best" category.

Sometimes talent alone isnt what makes people popular ( although IME I think shes talented).

It can have to do with personality ,looks, people you know, karma and just plain how charismatic a person is.

I think the younger crowd really likes her because she is young herself and she seems like a genuine person and not super sexed out like a lot of other female singers are . Im sure that goes well with the parents too :D
 
Didn't watch the video, as she is just painfully obnoxious for me to purposely listen to her (kinda like Kim Kardashian sp?). Just like so many of her ...somebody done me wrong...songs. That song portrays her as a little whiner. When you put yourself in the spotlight, you've got to be prepared to take the bad along with the good reviews. I have never heard anyone being hyper critical of her.

Of course you'd have to be living in a hole not to know who she is but in my mind she doesn't really represent country music, though I'm not a fan and that makes my thoughts worth little. If you were to ask me to name a few she wouldn't be on the top of the list of those that I relate to as Country Music stars. She seems like a bubble gummer to me. She must be fairly smart as she seems to have bridged the gap well enough to find audience in both genres.

As I look at the video posted, I would ask you, what makes it country? Is it the way the artists are dressed? The backdrop? Is it the fact that there is a banjo in it? The audience for which she performs? What is it?

She seemed pretty much right for this video.

It doesn't take a "fan" to recognize a style/genre. :) And of course, you are correct she is far from country and bubble gummer is a pretty accurate description. Which is in large part the source of my frustration. I don't fit the demographic of a 9-13 y/o girl (and possibly the mom who has a girl in that demographic.) and I tune in to country music radio to hear some semblance of country music. Luckily, depending on the time of day, I have 5 local stations (not satellite) to select from and on 3 of those stations she never make and appearance.

I doubt that it has anything to do with her marketing "smarts", rather music label's deep pockets.
