Sep 15, 2005 #3 P papi_jay New member Clearcoat failure is actually when the clearcoat seperates from the base . It shows up as peeling " lifting " or crackling like dry skin . If it wear down that is either from polishing too much , or the sun has taken it's toll . Almost all cars eventually lose their clear coat due to sun if not UV protected unless it's not driven daily
