Cleaning snow from your car

My opinion and seems to work for meâ€Â¦forget the rain-x crap, just put a coat of your favorite wax on the windshield. Do all the glass. This would help ice not to bond tightly to the glass. With a towel or glove remove what you can of ice/snow. Then start your car put the heat on and let the ice/snow melt away so you can drive. Note take most of the snow off the rest of your car leaving some on the hood/roof/trunk. The rest will melt away if you go into a parked garage and any sand or dirt will drip of your car leaving it cleaner if you did not. If parked outside in the elements then no sand or dirt will sit on the cars painted surface. Living in new england for years you learnâ€Â¦Sharky

Sno-Brum works well. As was mentioned, just make sure you leave some snow above the surface. It is tougher on a heavier wet snow, as the wet snow does not separate easily which could cause you to move all of the snow at once. Hence, more risk of scratching. Lighter snow is a snap. If wet, I will get the small plastic kid's shovel and ever so carefully pick the heavy snow off.

Stratmosphere Ultimate Snowbrush-

That brush looks like the ticket if you have a clean and well protected surface. Anything is better than the nylon cheapie brush. $40 is getting up there though.

What about the OXO Snow Brush? Anyone have experience?

If your surface is dirty, (remember it is winter) then even the best brush is not going to be enough. Just leave the paint alone.

The guy that lives next door to me uses a straw broom in the morning. He says it works real good. I then point out all the scratches and watch his face. Its like a deer in the headlights! LOL

OMG! :nono

I clear off most of the snow with my hand. When the thin layer on the paint gets warm and slides off, I don't think there is that much risk of scratching because the liquid water layer beneath the snow/ice lifts it away from the paint while it slides off.

There's only so much you can do to protect your car from scratches.

I use to be *really* bad and bang the big sheets of ice off my car with my fist (so they would break into smaller pieces and fall off). Now that I'm an Autopian, I won't be doing that. I figure that put a good deal of scratches on my cars doing this. But it was fun to pull off a big fender shaped sheet of ice.:)

I did something similiar years ago to my windshield and when the snow and ice cleared my windshield was shattered:eek:

If I didnt have winter snow removal and poor car washes to mess up my cars what would I use my PC & rotary & $100s of dollars of supplies for?

I feel sorry for those of you who get no swirls & scratches to remove and must content yourself with stripping off wax just so you can put some more on.

Come to MI & experiance the ultimate joy that a spring detail brings.

I have a nylon windshield cover that covers the entire front windshield and is held by just closing the front doors on it. Wife picked it up at Wallmart and I use it. Open the door and pull it away. I keep an OXO brush for snow removal and I agree with the others a good coat of wax will let the snow slide off quite easily.

I am hoping for the remote-start for Christmas to help further.

I first start by using my hand to knock off any loose snow from above my drivers door, to prevent snow from getting on my seat, doorsill, carpet. I then warm the car really good. I clean the windshild off with a brush or scraper. I remove some snow, but leave what ever doesn't want to budge from the paint. If there is less then a foot of snow on my car I'll just leave it. I then get in the car and drive off, feeling sorry for who ever is driving behind me. :D

PS. I keep an eye on my rear view mirror to see when the next piece flys off, and who my next victom will be. :o

It really does not take much speed to shed the snow. I do mostly low speed errands with my 02 Truck and the "Autopian" finish just lets the snow slide off gently as the truck warms up. No need to us the Warp Speed method even though it is fun :) to see it fly.
