Accumulator said:Yeah, generally, claying pulls contamination out of the paint which is different from the way a polish/compound will abrade away both the paint and the contamination. Polishing first can round over contamination, making it harder to clay it off later.
Claying won't do anything for scratches, it should be a basically nonabrasive process.
FWIW, I always clay before I polish.

Same here. For me it's my "cheap man's wetsanding" I do it so much.
