Hi all,

I don't pos very often, but when I post, it's worth reading, :grinno:

The car is a Citroen DS, 32 years old and never seen water, soap or wax ! :scared:

The car belongs to a friend of me and he asked if it was possible to "restore" it more or less.

Condition was horrible, dull, lifeless and rough as sandpaper !

I took me 5 hours to to the entire exterior :

  • Washed using mitt and Zymol shampoo
  • Problem areas were treated with MC2 citrus degreaser and OXO brushes
  • Clayed with Swissol clay (was yellow, now black ! )
  • Polishing with SSR 3, 2.5 and 2 using rotary on 1000-2000 rpm with green and bleu Sonus pads
  • Difficult areas and chrome were polished using AIO
  • Waxed the whole car with Natty's bleu
  • Tyres with Turtle wax extreme
  • All black and trim with 303
  • Windows were scraped off with a gilette blade !, then cleaned with glassex window cleaner

Considering the original state, I was surprised how good the car came out.

The paint was badly cracked on some places, probably a bad respray some years ago.

Only the left side came out like I wanted, but the hood and trunk were still a litlle dull.

The owner on the other hand was surprised and happy as a young puppy when he came to collect the car...

Cheers

Wally

Some before shots :

The paint color is some kind of bordeaux mettalic, with green on the roof.

But in now way that kind of paint is compairable with todays finish on our cars...

What a difference!! excellent job. Those cars always cracked me up, i remember seeing them on a few trips to europe back in the day

What a POS. Nice work on the paint, but I have to agree with the others on here...that thing is like Frankencar.

You might think of it as ugly in those colors, but in black, the DS looks amazing with all of that chrome. Watch the movie Lord of War and you will see what I mean.

Cool car, someone in my town has one..I see it once in a while.

You've done an excellent job considering what you had to work with !! Good effort. :xyxthumbs

There's a black DS in half the Highlander TV episodes - he drives one the half-season the show is set in France. Quirky looking, but I like them. They're sort of like the Tucker - the DS had lots of features back then that are just now making it onto modern cars. The hydraulics were licensed by Rolls-Royce and used in their cars from 1965 until 1992 or so, I think.

The "bordeaux" paint is not your average metallic.

It has some flake but it felt and had the look of some sort of industrial coverage like on bulldozers and so...

It sounds strange but I even tried with a whool and orange pad and SSR3 and it stayed dull, there was some shine in it, but not htat glassy look like on my car !

I was as smooth as silk, but the look was more of a slightly "hazed" surface....

Nice work :bigups

My grandfather had a similar car. The most unique feature is hydraulic, load-bearing suspension . . . no springs or torsion bars. When parked on the curb, the car is slammed to the ground. Turn over the ignition; ride height is adjusted accordingly to speed and load.

The 2000, the best of the French Cadillacs most recently seen in the movie Munich has many technilogical innovations that were adopted by Audi and MB and BMW such as the hydraulic braking and steering systems that were like light years ahead of the competition. Thats an amazing car an is a true classic !

Nice work in restoring the finish, the owner should be proud !
