what i like about both of them is that they are both automatic transmittion, and they are both sedans... what do you guys think, is it worth buying these earlier model M3s?

Cough get Manual Cough..... :D Seems like the right deal but its best to go see the cars upfront. Be warned fixing any European car is big money. I wouldn't mind an M3 though.

yea i know its big money.... my dad is this guy that sells tools to mechanicis, and they owe him money, so it works either way around :).

zesty, but there is no way to escape the insurance cost for you. I looked into one as opposed to the Vette' I have, and it was outrageous....especially with you being 16. The value of the car isn't bad, but you'll be paying $3000/year I would predict.

ha! thats what my dad says about sports cars... another option would be to have the insurance under his name........

You would still have to be listed as one of the drivers for the car. While it might be a bit cheaper to register the car under your Dad's name, there's no escaping the fact that a 16 year old male driver is part of the household.

If you get an M3, you must get a radar detector. They have a very smooth drive and you won't even know you are speeding.

M3 + 16 year old male + Speeding ticket = :eek

Enjoy your first car. I now own a 2002 4runner and love it, but nothing can replace my 1983 Mazda GLC.

yea, my dad's friensd install those radar scramblers or whatever. the other day he was putting one of those on a BMW 645 CI (i think thats what the model was)........ however, i dont think my mom would be very happy when she finds out that i have that piece of hardware on my car.......

also, i was considering maybe getting an acura or honda. i NEED a four door car, and i dont want a camry or corolla (leave those to the moms and grandmas).

Hey NCSU are you out of college now? Love to meet up with more NC people.

Getting back to topic, yes Radar Detectors rule. I have a Passport 8500 and it has paid for itself, but that is if it detects the radar before they get a reading on you. Some false readings, but its worth it easily. Too bad I need to upgrade to a V1 or New passport X50. You can also look into a police scanner or radar scrambler which cost alot.

My mom wasn't happy when I bought one either. I really don't speed excesively. I bought it because it is easy to hit 50 in a 35 and never realize it. I bought it when I was your age.

No, graduated in 1999. Now live in Hickory. I really miss Raleigh though. I have football season tickets to State, so I make it back some.

Think we can get a Poorboy's Detail day in NC?

Heck yes! I have alot of the PB stuff, probably going to buy the entire series since I'm so crazy. groebuck (member in durham/raleigh) would prob be interested. zymolkk? Dunno haven't seen him in awhile. I did go to a Meguiars Day with some Autopia/regular peeps. We need to find a facility cause I bet we could get alot of people in general. Iwill PM you if anything comes up. :)

Zesty - go for a late model TL-S - similar price range if not cheaper and while not M3 0-60 times you still get 260HP - auto stick if you want to drive manual and they come loaded.

Some good advice for a first time car buyer/ new driver buying first car!

1. Buy something nice (But be carefull of other kids you go to school with they tend to be jealous and malicious!)

2. No matter what you do your insurance costs are going to be high espessially high if your driving a sports car.

3. If your going to buy a sports car (like an M3) 1. Buy manual trans...its not as difficult as you think to learn 2. You will have a lot more fun driving.

4. Something they don't teach you in school! Always keep a cheep disposable camera in the car don't open it just keep it in the car! In the even of an auto accident that someone hits you ect. Take some pictures as soon as possible before cars are moved out of the way ect! A Picture is worth 1000 words!! Espessially when its not your fault!

Enough about being older and wiser! Back to the topic at hand

BMW's are very nice ... as said before .... very expensive to maintain. If you are seriously intrested in these vehicals I would highly suggest taking them to a dealer and they will usually give the car a diag for about $45.00 if your are seriously considering the car that $45.00 could save you $4,500 in repairs later on!

yea, thats what my dad said about the maintainence of BMWs. he also said that none of his friends "speicialize" in BMWs........

hmmm, any other cars out there that you would recommend? im looking for a 4 door sedan, automatic. it doesnt have to have power, but i want it to look stylish. im looking into acura and honda.

Why the 4 door? I'm still waiting for the day when I can lose the two back doors.

As for suggestions, what about a Subie?

Save the 4 doors for when you have kids!

Nissan maxima

Stick to something thats sporty and fun... or shoot for something like a truck ... plenty of room you to get your groove on!

Which ever way you go ... just make sure its what you want!

well....... the reason i want four door is because here in hawaii, we like to go to the beach and stuff, easy in and out, if you know what i mean. it just seems more fun four door, and much more convinent. i figure, the more people you cna hold, the better. i think there can be a four dour thats both sports and fun, however a two door may be more romantic :)
