Charlie's Soap is well worth the $20

Hopefully, I'll have more luck on with [Charlie's] APC...[than you did with their detergent]... Maybe if I used double the amount for dirty laundry it would work better? I'm sure it works well on clothes with light dirt though.

I hope so. I've decided that experiences are simply gonna vary with regard to this stuff and that my experiences might not mirror anybody else's (and vice-versa); gotta admit I'm a little gun-shy about this topic as people sometimes insist that others can't tell what they're experiencing first-hand.

When I used extra Charlies I had to do multiple rinses to get it all out, and it still didn't give the results I get with other products (Tide/etc. for normal textiles, MicroRestore/etc. for MFs). Maybe you'll have better luck than I did. It oughta work OK on light dirt, I'm using it for jobs like that as I work my way through my last 5-gallon bucket of the stuff.

I've been pleased with my Charlie's experience. My 1st gallon will be gone soon and I've used it on many things around the house including clothes. I think it does a nice job on MF towels. I also have the APC spray bottle but must confess I've really never spent much time with it.

OTOH, shipping a gallon of liquid across the country is getting $$$. I don't think I'll make further purchases unless I could buy it OTC. I don't recall what I paid for the gallon but suspect the shipping would be $10+.

I have to admit that if forced to choose between Charlie's or Micropak for my mf cleaning, I think I'd go with Micropak. However, I haven't included the APC in my laundry yet. I've only used it for around the house and found it to be quite effective.

One fear of mine is that I have to share the washing machine(s) with others because I live in a condo and goodness knows what they use for their laundry. I can't help but think that there are remnants of their detergents in these machines that would adversely effect my towels when I do my wash. :nixweiss

You can always run an empty cycle of hot water first to get rid of any old detergent. Just keep an eye on the rinse cycle and make sure the water is clear with no suds.

That is an option. The only problem is that I have to pay and I'm not sure if I want to spend the extra dollar to run an empty cycle. I think I do enough loads to where that dollar would add up quickly.

The other annoyance is that it's front loading, so the door is locked for the entire wash. I can't add anything during the rinse cycle or check the water or anything. I don't know who would want these kinds of washers. They're very restrictive. I'd love to have my own washing machine! :)

When I got my (many gallons) of it, I found a place that had free shipping. I just checked their site and it's no longer offered on the Charlie's :( Doesn't mean that somebody *else* won't offer it though.

What are you guys talking about with the Charlie's shipping? Buy it direct and they ship for free. Keep a close watch because they frequently run sales, and they will give you a discount if you order stuff together (like laundry detergent and APC). That Instaoffice place had lower prices than direct AND free shipping, but they dropped the free shipping and last time I priced it they were more expensive total even though the price of the product was less than buying direct from Charlie.

I think buying a specific soap to wash MF is just stupid. But then again, if you can afford it go for it. It'll get your MF maybe slightly cleaner, but thats about it. I use Charlie's to wash everything now.

I agree, honestly I don't see the need. Tide works just fine...

Buy directly from Charlie's and shipping is included in the price. It's about $20 for a gallon of detergent shipped anywhere in the Continental US.

I was gonna post something about throwing around the "stupid" label and/or criticizing somebody (on this site no less) for spending a little more to get better performance.. but then I decided that I've beaten the "tried all the others, decided based on direct comparison/observation" topic to death on enough of these MF-detergent threads and, more importantly, perpetuating an :argue dynamic is something I'd rather avoid.

Setec Astronomy- Yeah, that InstaOffice deal was nice while it lasted. IIRC it was you who turned me on to it.

Well I got my soap today from the Fedex guy. Problem is it had a "white trail from truck to door" (clean now)..serious too..   I did save some thank god.

See anything wrong......

Huh, thanks for the heads-up on that. I am quite certain I purchased from Instaoffice. If Charlie's will ship from free, I'll buy more. I'd like to catch it on sale.... :D

Even though I cleaned the FEDEX terminal and various other points, they are VERY fasting in there shipping.

it is fedex. I have more issues with them then UPS. Based on the rip, it was thrown down. At least I saved some..... about 50% (based on weight). I used what I could save via the open box. Even the Fedex guy was like, "what is this and we have a leaker".....I need to order more; but, how since they messed up the last deal. If I order more, can I use at least UPS? Even the wife was like what did you order, it is all over the place. I did one cleaner load and 2 clothes loads.

Are you sure it was packed appropriately?

On another note, and quite contrary to your experience, I have had more losses with UPS, then any other shipper......

There was no paper on the top of it like the bottom. Maybe that was it. No clue. What you see is how I opened it.

Yeah, thats kind of why I asked. It doesnt appear to have been packaged properly. I would get with Taylor over at Sutherland and see what he can do for you.......Send him the pics, and let him know "had there been more packaging, this may have possibly been avoided". It doesnt look like it was FedEx's disregard.

Hi Patrick. I don't mean to but in but I receive about 3 packages a month, mostly from UPS and I have never had a problem yet! They have always delivered timely and in really good condition.

Maybe I have just been lucky, I don't know. However the package you received (as opened) has the smell of disgruntled employee or poltergeists.

I think if you contact them with the pictures as someone suggested, things can probably be settled with no problems. Sorry dude, sometimes it's just a *****!

Changeling

Change, I dont use UPS when I ship anything. However, when I recieve anything that has been shipped with UPS, in particular from the east coast, its more often then not, delivered in not the best of condtion. This is based in comparison with some of the other shippers i.e. FedEx, DHL or good ol USPS.

I should have taken pics the other day (video rather) of this guy loading a truck, it would have made headlines and I probably would have gotten free shipping for the rest of my natural life. (Not mentioning the company though)

Please dont take this as argumentative, its just BME (been my experience).
