Charlie's Soap is well worth the $20

Well, it's not stupid or a rip-off if you experience a clear difference in performance. I had high hopes that the Charlie's would replace my Micro-Restore and MicroPak but it just doesn't work as well on my detailing-use MFs as those products do. I sure wouldn't buy those MF-specific detergents if there weren't a functional advantage to using them. I'm using Charlie's for the household textiles because of how well it works, but it's just not as good on my detailing MFs as the other stuff. Doesn't get them as clean, takes more rinsing, and doesn't leave them as soft. Heh heh, IMO I'd be stupid to use something that doesn't work as well for me ;)

Try THIS LINK for a super price on Charlie's.

Ditto. We use Charlies soap for everything that goes into the wash. And the APC as a prespray.

Ditto......I use it exclusively for MF's too......The spray version cleans tires real well also.....

Neo- feeling a difference is kind of subjective. I believe the real value in using something like Charlies or a specific mf wash is for what they don't contain (UV brighteners, fabric softening agents, perfumes or scent masking agents). All of these additives, in a traditional detergent like Tide, are designed to not rinse out of your laundry. They leave a measureable about of residue that over time requires you to use additional softeners. They probably cause accelerated wear of the clothing themselves since they are constantly abrading the fibers. Without additives, the clothing fibers can achieve their full lofting capability and will probably feel softer without the need for specific additional softening agents.

What about "ALL" (liquid), it is advertised as a "Free Clear allergen fighter (from the label)" I use it because of bad allergies, it also contains no perfumes , dyes or phosphorous! Because it is a liquid it leaves NO residue whatsoever.

Check it out, all the above is on the label, and it's cheap and sold everywhere (courtesy of my neighbors wife).

What work's better - the liquid or the powder? I am used to using powder for my laundry.

I use the powder to clean my mf and am pleased with it, although I know many like to use the liquid version. The standard size is a small bag, but you only need one tablespoon for a full load.

My favorite Charlie's product though has to be the APC! It's excellent for household cleaning.

So when yall say that certain soaps/detergents do not get your mf's clean, do you mean that you can visibly see spots on them after a wash? Or do you mean that there is a residue that is invisible to the naked eye left in the fabric? If the second, how do you tell. Right now my mf's always come out of the wash looking clean to the eye, and feeling clean, is this good enough?

any real differences between the powder and liquid.

I admit that this soap is interesting..it seems to have alot of followers

UPDATE: I'm no longer using the Charlie's on household textiles either, at least not ones that matter. Accumulatorette complained that everything was looking dingy so I went back to Tide HE and Cheer HE. Now things are looking good again :nixweiss

I gave Charlie's an honest try (and still have a few gallons that I'll be using up on, uhm, something) but with my washing machines (both HE and conventional) and my water (conditioned/softened and double-filtered municipal water) it just doesn't get stuff clean for me :(

I'd buy a reasonable quantity and make sure it works well for you before getting many gallons of it. Funny, I didn't have any complaints with the first gallon, but after using it for a more extended period of time it proved to be a loser (for *me*, not saying it doesn't/won't work for anybody else).

I saw on the news that Consumer Reports recently tested laundry detergents and voted Tide #1.

I, therefore, concluded that it must not be very good. ;)

ok patrick I did what you suggested and the water spread for a split second probaly 1/4 of a second then soaked into the mf. I'm guessing the longer it takes to soak in the more products there are left in the towel. So how does 1/4 of a second compare?

After CR's "wax test," it makes me wonder about any of the conclusions they draw, but yeah for laundry soap it's probably ok. I was being facetious more than anything.

Thats actually a good sign that there is no residue remaining on your towels! Good work, keep it up! Its doesnt necessarily speak for the quality of the MF, just the fact that its not retaining residue with your current wash methods.

I use this laundry detergent for the same reasons you gave and have recently gave it a go for MF's. One thing is not to use too much or it will take forever to rinse out.

I cleaned all the windows in the kitchen this morning, 1 door with 9 glass panels, 1 window over sink and sliding door going out on deck, inside and out. Stoners forever:clap:

I then threw the MF (Viking) towels from K Mart in the washer with 1/3 cap of all, put on the smallest load setting with warm wash/cold rinse and extra rinse.

Dried them on the bath tub bar that holds up the curtain. They came out absolutely awesome. There is no reason to buy special detergent.

There you go an actual test, fully explained, guaranteed to work great.

Give it a go, then you to will know:)

Hopefully, I'll have more luck on with their APC. I tried a sample of the laundry detergent, thanks to Patrick, on some dirty/greasy Mf's and it didn't get them quite clean. I ran them again using Tide and they came out a lot cleaner. Maybe if I used double the amount for dirty laundry it would work better? I'm sure it works well on clothes with light dirt though.
