Car washing video

I'm sure some of you have seen this already, but this is for those who haven't. I just watched it for the first time yesterday. It's Mike Phillips showing how he washes cars. I like the two buckets connected together. :)

One possible way to wash your car

And then, of course, there's this...

Alternate car wash method

(By the way, I had to add "ing" in the title for some reason. I couldn't post the thread with the words "car" and "wash." :nixweiss)

No disrespect to mike but I'm lucky that I live on the other side of the planet.

my car ain't getting washed with that technique

The only thing that kinda confused me was that he said he was going to wash from top to bottom, but it didn't seem like he did that.

x2. I see nothing wrong with his method. Only thing I dont like is the fact that he puts the soap in after the water. Ive never had a problem filling the bucket up after I put the soap in. :)

So, you like the alternative method better?

;)

I had no idea Mike had an artificial leg!

Shouldn't he wrap that thing in microfiber or something? :) I'd have scratches all over my car from banging my knee into it...

I thought the same thing.

Ive always wondered what happened to him. He seems to be a really cool guy.. Hate that something like that had to happen to him(whatever it was). :(

He flipped his drag boat and got hit by the prop.

PS I have done that washing in the rain thing, (20-25?) years ago on an old beater (although it might not have been that much of a beater at the time :o), but I DID use a bucket of car wash...just used the rain water for pre-rinse/rinse.

Oh wow... At least it only caught his leg and nothing else.

Thanks for informing me.. :)

HAHA! Ive always wanted to wash mine in the rain.. Ive never done it though. :lol

When I lived in Charleston, I use to wash in the rain all the time. In the summer, it's just too dang hot and if you don't have shade you're screwed. When the rain stopped, I'd just do a quick rinse with clean water and dry as normal.

Thats my problem right now. Since the leaves havent come out yet, I have no shade! :wall

I just try my best to keep it wet and dry it as quick as I can. The sun still isnt as strong as it will be in the summer though. So its not to bad.

It was funny when he sounded all winded trying to hurry up. I'm glad day light savings came earlier so I can stay out later and wash my car!

I really liked this video, I still learned more things although I've read so much on the forum. I'm able to see how much soap I should use (I found that I'm using a bit too little soap and water), how much pressure is placed on wash mitt, how to often to rinse, etc...

And I also learned that I've been pronouncing Meguiar's wrong all the time :) I put the strong sound on the first "e". I didn't know it's supposed to be on the "uia" part :) Learn something new everyday!

Thanks for the video. I had pretty much the same technique except for the wheels. He spent 1/10th of the time I spend on my wheels on that Mini's...

I think this wash method is very sound and practical.

But he forgot probably the best secret of all. He should have allowed the hose to run free flow (no nozzle) over the entire car before he tried to dry it. This causes the water to sheet off by itself instead of trying to remove thousands of those water droplets with a towel which will saturate very quickly. When people ask me what do I use to dry my car?

I always say "Water" what else? Then they look at me like I'm messing with them. Those here who have tried this method know exactly what I'm talking about. It is probably the best trick of the trade I ever learned.
