Bud Abraham is coming to Dallas in December. Would it be worth it to spend $149 to have him share his detailing tips/secrets?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I’ve read many of his posts on other message boards and Im not impressed. My advise would be to spend the money on marketing books and read them two or three times. Share his detailing tips/secrets? :lol

I've read his posts on other forums too and he has some worthwhile info. Depends on what you are looking for. If what you seek is to become an expert in a day it is not going to happen. If you want to learn some new or different techniques then it could be worthwhile. You're going to learn something you just have to figure if that knowledge is worth $149 to you.

PS There is nothing the matter with selling information newspapers do it everyday :grinno:

Bud's advice is more about running an effecient and effective detail shop, supplied of course with his line of products, then it is about actual hands-on detailing experience. This does not come from my own personal experience but from others who have attended his seminars.

There is nothing wrong with him selling his products or pushing them along with his seminars, that's just smart business. He is a very nice guy and he has an eye for business. I don't believe though that his seminars are geared for intensive detail work. When I train someone I pay more attention to the detailing aspect of things and only touch lightly, mainly in conversation, about marketing and such.

I'd go

I'd spend the money.

I need the perspective of another Pro.

Ron Ketchum (Grumpy) will be in my shop 1st thing tomorrow. It is a sales call to be sure, but I'll pick his brain on what is current, and he'll correct my actions in several areas. And I'll spend several hundred dollars.

Keep an open mind. I'm certain that Bud will augment your knowledge. Just remember that there are many sources for chemicals.

Go For It!

Yes, it would most certainly be worth it and it would be money well spent.

When it comes to automobile detailing, Bud Abraham is an icon in the industry. Of course there will be people who base their opinions on things that they read on message boards and things that do not come from their own personal experience, but let me be the first one to tell you that Mr. Abraham was leading this industry long before many of these people were born. Yes, he has been involved in the detailing industry for more than three decades.

From my own personal experience, I have found Mr. Abraham is always ready and willing to share his knowledge and experience. He's the kind of person that you can count on when you need advice about the business of detailing.

In summary, when you figure $149 is less than the cost of one car detailing, it would well worth spending that $149 on establishing a lifelong contact with an icon in the industry.

From the articles of his I have read in Professional Car Washing and Detailing, he seems to be more focused on the business and marketing areas of running a detailing business. I'm pretty much getting what he knows for free right now. :nixweiss

That is pretty close to what is going to happen. I have attended his class and have spoken and exchanged emails with him many times. Well worth it to go.

Scott, one difference though, try asking the magazine a question!! LOL!!

I am sure he knows his stuff, but just reading that guy (in my book) seems to be the biggest ego maniac I have ever come across. What arrogance. What does he thinks? He is saving the world? I wouldn't go near him.

The chances of me running needing him is I'd say pretty slim.

There are others out there that have answers, so I'll be fine. I am glad that you have been helped by him.

I have no axe to grind with Mr. Abraham and the posts in question are written by himself concerning marketing. Nothing is equal to practical experience, however is that experience correct and conveyed properly? IMO, If your looking for the (best marketing advice) then read marketing books and speak to your local marketing professional. If your looking for financial help then ask the S.B.A. or a lending institute. If you want to learn how to detail a car then ask a detailer.. “Leading this industry long before many of these people were born is a statement of attrition. We are finding out quite frequently that being a leader in a industry for the last few decades doesn’t imply you’re a a leader today. Take the U.S auto manufactures for example!

With the WWW available it is become harder and harder to sell business secrets.

You know what? When I was going to drop off my kids in the summer of '04, I posted on Autopia I would be in the northern Kentucky/southern Ohio area and would be open to meeting up with fellow Autopians. Ron was the only person who called and wanted to meet up with me. Unfortunately, due to the weather and a few other things that came up, I wasn't able to meet with him.

I have no personal dealings with Bud but my experience with Ketch is quite the opposite. In fact, he goes out of his way to help, always just an e-mail or phone call away,is patient, listens, and will walk you through step by step, and rather than arrogance and closed mindedness, he is also generous and shows an interest in one's mastering techniques and being successful overall.

Ron and Bud are both very nice guys and they really want to better the aspects of detailing and how people in general view detailers.

They fight like cats and dogs at times which is always good for a chuckle :)

I hav elearned alot from both Bud and Ron. Myself and Ron Harris hung out with "Grumpy" for several days when the Car Care Expo came here to San Antonio. He was very generous with hsitime and knowledge. Bud was too busy selling stuff in his custom tailored Italian suit to hang out with us lol....jus kiddin :)
