Brown Royal Non-Acid Wheel Cleaner

I ordered it because it appeared from the videos and reviews I could find on the internet that it worked. I wanted a strong all around cleaner that did what it said it would do (and didn't cost nearly $20 for a half gallon or smaller size), and so far, this appears to be just that.

Never really gave (nor will I probably give) much thought to how safe/unsafe it is. I wear gloves and a have started wearing a mask over my mouth and nose even when using OTC cleaners like that. I will probably pay attention to the possibility of any sort of disfiguration or discoloration on the wheels I use it on.

Tested BR today. Long story short, Optimum power clean, cleans just as good, if not better....

$12 for 17 ounces, it's nearly 4 times the price.... Unless I can't add, which is entirely possible...

A gallon of OPC is $36 versus $16 for the Brown Royal.

those videos look pretty good. i have also seen members on another forum give this stuff a thumbs up.

If this stuff cleans better then Westley's it has got to be some what good as i love that stuff.

What more can you really ask for from a product that is only like $6 a bottle.

Good point about the price, but I didn't mention anything about price. I told you which I think *cleans* better. However, they are very close, and considering the performance and price, BR is a better value.

So to the argumentation of wheel cleaners ph levels. Does anyone know what PH level P21 Wheel Gel comes in at and how it may compare?

Well, if you wanna split hairs, the OP didn't mention anything about Optimum Power Clean. ;) :D One does happen to clean the wallet better than the other. :chuckle:

This brown royal is the best wheel cleaner i have used in the past 20 yrs of detailing and the price can't be beat. Very little work if any i used to clean the wheels and they were some pretty bad/dirty rims and tires. AAA+++ for this stuff don't take a rocket scientist to see the value and ease of use on this product.

Ya know, the price to performance value is great! Plus, you can use it on tires, wheel wells, engines, and even paint!!

Dillute 1:8 for weekly washing! or 3:1 for heavy stuff, and 1:1 to drop the nuke on that terrible wheel!

Ordering a gallon over the weekend, was planning on it for the longest time now!

I'm gonna use it straight on everything! It's very inexpensive! :woot2:

Not worth it bro! Its going to be ridiculously strong and smelly (it smells bad at no dilution). And its also bad for your health so wear gloves and a mask.

Thats like using M105 on every detail! Dont go with the most power stuff all the time as its not needed.

Have you ever used BR?

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. M105 will remove paint. There are lighter products out there that will do the job if need be without being as aggressive. Using BR in its most aggressive form will not remove or damage anything regardless how dirty or clean the surfaces are. However, I understand the point you're trying to make. :bigups :xyxthumbs

Are you saying that it won't damage un coated Al in ANY way? High Ph will, so I'm confused by your statement.

I was referring to clear coated finishes. If you use BR per directions, you will not remove any clearcoat. If you use M105 per directions, you will remove clearcoat. I understand his point in saying that using BR straight isn't needed all the time and a better value if diluted, but it won't remove or damage clear coat finishes if used straight all the time. Besides, BR is not THAT strong. I just used it straight on my Vette(daily driver) chrome wheels that are *washed weekly*, and definitely did not remove all brake dust with agitation. This stuff is no better than OPC are any other quality APC on the market, IMO.

I now see, thanks.

btw any polish will remove some clear coat.

I agree.

Besides, I do not think BR is THAT strong. Like some suggested using it 8:1(water,product) is way to weak, even for weekly washing. I just used BR *straight* on my z06(daily driver) wheels that are washed weekly, and it was no better than OPC or APC+. The hype for this product is a bit too much, IMO. For the price, it is a great value, however. :xyxthumbs

While I don't consider it "hype" in the sense that some other products with known names get, it's th eonly wheel cleaner I've ever used that even comes close to living up to the billing of being able to be sprayed on/let dwell/rinse off with any sort of marked results. True, it's not 100% clean without some agitation and I know by virtue of it being able to clean like that it has other disadvantages/drawbacks. But I've never used an APC or other wheel/tire cleaner that cleans with as little user interaction as this does. Granted, I've not used everything that's out there, and I've probably used a lot of stuff other folks haven't. But as far as living up to what I've seen posted on boards and such, this is one of the few products that actually exceeded my expectations.

As soon as the makers/vendors of this stuff realize they can get us for 2-3 times the cost, it won't be much of a value anymore anyway. It'll be just like buying most any other "boutique" product - $20+ for a 16 ounce bottle.
