broken,cracked dash

I could see 300 for a 2000 camaro but a not 1980 those cars have not reached the point of being worth anything, I would by one out of a junkyard clean it and give it to him unless this is some kind of show car.

Yeah I dont want to spend 300 and the owner doesnt expect me to , he doesnt even want me to worry about it. But I feel bad about it .

No.. its no show car LOL the clear coat on the hood and decklid are totally shot . But the dash was perfect. I didnt even think to go to a junkyard ,thanks

You will need to find a mobile interior repair or a shop that does interior repairs. Keep in mind that once the repair has been done you will need to repaint. I have done interior work and in some cases you can fix it for less then what the part and labor would cost. But also keep in mind that if the person that does the job is not patient or neat can lead to a bigger problem. Hope all works out.

PS: I always will advise any mobile detailer when starting a detailing business to start collecting leads of dent guys, paint & body tints, Leather interior work etc. Give them referrals so if some day you have an issue you can call them.

Thanks Eddy

:iagree: very wise advice indeed :-B

Go down to the south bay and look for one in the junk yards that are off of the 905 and Heritage Road, on Otay Mesa. They have tons and tons of cars. Oh, there are also some off of Main St. near Knott's Soak City and the Cricket Amphitheater. Nirvana is the name of the street, if I'm not mistaken.

You shouldn't be responsible for a 25 year old dried up dash falling apart. Tell the guy you will discount his next detail some. Other then that, I don't see where you are at fault Da Rules!

Thanks Rusty and Cheetoh! ! appreciate the help !

Not sure what Im going to do yet and will discuss it with the owner .

Flash, I know its not really my fault but I still feel somewhat responsible. Besides this man brings me a ton of business so I want to take care of him .

This is one reason I dont like detailing older cars. Sometimes just in the normal cleaning proccess Ive broken parts and had to replace them or at least super glue them back together :Dthis is far the worst thing Ive done though.X_X

Im just happy it wasnt a really nice car and out of anyone he understands because part of his job as a service writer is to tell customers the shop broke something in trying to repair their car and they have to pay for the new part :Dand they have broken parts on my older vans too so now we are even LOL

I had a 2002 Honda S2000 plastic back window on the convertible top split on me last winter. All I did was open and put the roof down so that I could do the inside. The window didn't fold right and split. The owner said that she hadn't opened the roof herself in at least 2 years. She didn't want me to worry about it either but I knew it was going to cost a couple of hundred dollars. So I gave her the entire detail for free to make up for it. I just wish I had opened the roof earlier into the detail because I would not have spent so much time polishing it if I knew it was for free.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned dash caps or dash covers! Dash covers for 80's Camaros cost $30-40 and a dash cap can be had for under $100!

My 944's dash was completely trashed. So I got a $90 dash cap, covered it with $70 worth of black alcantara, then glued the cap in place- made the dash look beautiful.

Since you are covering plastic with plastic, you can skip the fabric and just glue it right in. 30 minutes and you're done.

Thats really a bummer that happened to you > It was really nice of you not to charge her for the detail. I hope you got more work from her or at least some refferals out of the deal!:)

Actaully the owner talked about maybe getting a cover but his first choice is getting it repaired . Im still working on it and found a local place that can do it but havent gotten an estimate yet .

I dont think I will be attempting taking apart the dash myself and replacing it with another used one . With my luck i would break something else X_X LOL

I have not heard of a dashcap . I will have to look into that ! Thanks!:)

Hi Charlie

The covers are are 30 - 50 bucks if you like the way they look . Just google it and you will get many to choose from .

I have not seen the end result yet but Im looking into a dash pad . Its a molded fitted peice that looks like a dash board but is glued on top of the old one . Thats my understanding of it anyway . They run a couple hundred .

I will post pictures if I can ever get someone to come through for me to do this .
