Brilliant Black Audi Paint?

They're both beautiful... This is such a hard decision!



I'll go and look at both colors tomorrow at the dealership, and maybe snap a few photos.

I just sold my Brilliant Black A3. I'll never buy black again. Horrid color to have to maintain on a daily driver.

Good luck, but I'd buy Dolphin Grey - it's a no brainer if given the choice :doh

I don't like the "special" blacks, too hard to match if you need paintwork and sometimes harder to keep nice than straight black (marring hides and then reveals itself later when you thought it was fixed).



I like the Dolphin Gray, but, heh heh, that's almost a "no, you don't want that" type of comment considering how low-profile I want my cars to be :D



I do, however, have a different take on the "wow the passersby" thing than wterry though. While my silver sedans aren't the radar-magnets that my red sportscars were, they sure do seem to get gawked at a lot (I like to think it's because I keep 'em nice). People flat-out *stare* at my vehicles a lot more than I would like, even the silver minivan.
 
I looked at the A4 in that dolphin gray and it was almost as dark as the black, both would show dirt. My friends BMW 335 is that dark grey color and it gets dirty within a couple days too.



I am almost done with the A4 detail and will post pics when done.



AIO, 2 coats Z5 pro, and Z-clear.... with z6 wipe downs in between, and of course a nice foam wash with my new foam gun (that was the most fun part!!)





Two neighbors already came over to compliment the new car. Can't wait to pull it out of the garage, the blnig will be blinding. ROFL.



Go black if you want the head turning attention when you are driving it clean go gray if you want another 1-2 days of looking clean.

They aren't starring at your silver mini-van, they are starring at you! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:



Seriously though black is a pain in the rear to keep clean but I don't think anything looks better "clean". Red looks nice too though, but tends to get too much attraction from the police.

Two things, most of the A4s I believe have auto/stick similar to Volvo. Not everyone wants to sit in traffic and deal with shifting.

They have the auto-stick thing, which isn't even close to the Audi DSG available in the A3 and TT, thats closer to a manual, but with a car that performs like the S4 it deserves manual. I sit in Atlanta traffic every day which is some of the worst in the country and ***** and moan about a manual, but when there isn't traffic, man o' man love me a manual.
 
Haha no kiddding, a brand new S4 with an Automatic?? I guess its okay since its his "winter beater".

But anywho, I'm still planning on getting brilliant black, but I'm considering alternatives. So, be on the look out for some pics from the dealership today.
 
I dont care what car I ever buy, I will never buy a manual again. You guys can have your little bit of speed, while I drive in comfort.
 
Honestly, I don't think manual is just about speed. It's about the ability to choose the gear that you want, when you want. It's about downshifting when you want, instead of pressing the accelerator down and waiting for it to downshift. It's about going into turns and coming out of them in the gear of your choosing, saving gas, and in general having more control of your car. Of course, this is only my opinion.
 
In todays cars, most reports show that people with manuals get the same gas mileage than people with autos. Mainly because the way they drive. And I can pick which gear I want with the auto stick...I want to be able to have the option, of not sitting in traffic shifting every 2 secs.
 
Its about being connected with the car and the road, its about being a driver not just getting from point a to point b. I drove a Lexus last night and it was an auto and I was bored to tears. Thankfully I only had to drive it about 20 miles because my mind was wandering and I wanted to slam my head into the glass the thing was so boring. No connection to the road at all, no feedback on the steering wheel, all the bumps were absorbed by the suspension and its auto!!!



Yes you can "pick" what gear with your auto stick, but not to the same degree with a manual, you can only go up or down a gear at a time, so if you are in 6th gear crusing down the HW and want to pop into 3rd and get on her you have to paddle shift your way down to 3rd, where we can go from 6th to 3rd straight. I've driven plenty of cars with paddle shifters, from BMWs SMG (which is nice) to Audi's DSG (amost as good as SMG) to the Lexus paddle shifters and no way you can go through corners and easily pick and choose gears like on a manual. #1 you are turning the wheel which rotates the shifters which would take a stupid amount of coordination and concentration to be shifting with those things while trying to go through tight corners. Everyone has their own likes and cheers to you for being a lazy driver! (JK)





I almost got the A3 with DSG but after test driving it knew it was something that would be cool for a week or two and then I'd leave it in drive and never use it. I knew I'd miss having a manual and I'm glad I took it with the 6 speed manual.





Personally I need two cars, auto for rush hour, and a manual for when I want to get out and actually enjoy driving, but I can't swing two nice cars so I have to go with the manual.
 
To sacrifice jumping more than when gear at a time, I will stick with not having to shift every 2 secs in traffic.

I don't shift every 2 seconds in traffic, we barely move here in ATL so I just stay in first gear, rofl.

Car is finally finished, what a long day.



I still have a 4 mile run to get in too, so I'll get the pics posted later.
 
Both my cars are manuals and I love taking advantage of the feel and control of the motor. I used to do a lot of motorsports, so I always prefered a stick. But lately I've been appreciating automatics much more. Some days when I get done with work, I just don't want to keep both my feet busy and "shift every 2 secs" in city traffic. I just want to sit down and relax and transport myself home. With the technology of today's autosticks matching the performance and feel of a traditional manual, I have already made my decision on my next car.



Oh, and the S4 was an auto-stick but it also had paddle shifters!
