Talk about resurrecting an old thread... LOL

I think the 528 comparison vs. the ES is not fair. The better comparison would be the 528 vs. the GS, which you also talked about and that is indeed what your friend chose. A good choice, IMO and exactly based upon the differences you pointed out.

I'm on my third Lexus (2008 IS350), when I chose mine it came down to the 335xi or the IS350. The bimmer was a bit more sporty to drive and my Lexus was definitely more refined and luxurious, so I chose the IS but still loved the 335. If I were 10 years younger, I would've probably picked the 335, although IMO, the I-Drive is a total disaster for BMW.

Hmm, I'll contribute to the resurrection.

What did your friend eventually decide to buy, Doc? EDIT: Nevermind, he got the Lexus. Well, this certainly was a pointless resurrection.

Personally, I like both, but am BMW fan. That being said, they are not as reliable as Lexus. For instance the new 135i/335i's have serious issues with fuel pumps just dying on then, and BMW refuses to put out a TSB. As SilvaBimma said above, BMW is more of an experience, and Lexus are just nice and reliable. Just depends on your priorities. I don't feel that there is a 'wrong' answer here, both are good choices, just for different reasons.

Crap, I just drug up an old thread. Sorry guys.

anyone test drive or check out the new IS convertible? they look very nice and seem to offer more for less money compared to the bimmer convertible...

I have a '99 GS400 and am continually amazed at how well they treat me at the dealership driving an 11 year old car with 110K miles.

BigAl3 .... I was at the dealership yesterday getting some brake work done and asked my service supervisor (someone said earlier that they were extremely knowledgeable and that has certainly been my experience) about the IS350C and he told me to stick with my ride that there have been a lot more mechanical issues with the IS line than the other Lexus cars.

FWIW on an old thread I tightened up my suspension just a little bit and the low end torque and the 300 horsepower and torque of my GS400 have been a lot of fun for me. I have always been a car 'ho and have had this puppy for 4 years now which amazes even my wife. I just can't find anything I want more than this one without spending a fortune.

To the comment about the 2nd Gen IS'. Granted there have been mechanical issues with the car Fuel line, Rear Calipers, and Steering column recalled. You have nothing to worry about. I own a 2006 Lexus IS250 AWD and they will fix everything no questions asked for free and give me a loaner so yes there were/are some problems with the new IS but they stand behind it and fix them.

The new convertible is just as fast and zippy as the regular sedan. It just has an uglier appearance
