This vehicle belongs to a repeat customer of ours. You might remember this vehicle from almost exactly 1 year ago when we did a major overhaul on the paint for this owner shortly after he purchased the car (click here to see the write up from last year). If you didn't see that post, here is a little summary...

... well this year it returns to us due to an unlikely event that left scratches all along the sides of the vehicle. The car was attacked by wild turkeys. Yep. Turkeys. They apparently saw their crystal clear reflection and decided to try to show that 'other turkey' who was boss.

Long story short, the customer wanted us to correct the sides of the vehicle to remove as much of the damage as we could while still being conservative. We also polished the rest of the vehicle to remove some water spotting, dullness, and swirls that had been introduced over the last year. I've been told the vehicle will now be parked in the garage at all times, so I hope we don't see this one in for correction for many years. It turned out great when it was all said and done... I really like this color!

Process
Tires: Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner & Tire Brush
Wheels: Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner & Various Brushes
Pre-Wash: CG Citrus Wash via Foam Lance then pressure rinse
Wash: CG Citrus Wash
Chemical Decontamination: CarPro IronX & Stoner Tarminator
Paint Decontamination: Medium Grade Speedy Prep Towel with Nanoskin Glide as Lubrication
Tape trim and other areas of concern
Paint Thickness Readings Taken
Compound/Cutting (sides only): Griot's Fast Cutting Creme on Fast Cutting MF Pads via Griot's G21, Rupes LHR21ES and Rupes LHR75e
Polishing (entire car): Griot's Correction Creme & Correcting Pad via Griot's G21, Rupes LHR21ES and Rupes LHR75e
Coating Prep/Polishing Oil Removal: 50% IPA
Ceramic Paint Coating: 22ple VX3 Signature Glass Coating
Glass: Meguiar's D120

Upon in initial inspection, it was clear that the paint needed some correction to enhance its appearance.

There were some deeper defects that would also need to be addressed.

We began with an extensive exterior cleaning and decontamination process.
20150813-DSC_5944_zpsmnx5eyea.jpg

The vehicle was then brought inside for further inspection. The paint had a fair amount of water staining, swirls, and scratches.

We were not after 100% defect removal as the paint was quite thin, and the majority of the vehicle had been repainted so caution is always used. I was able to make a considerable improvement to the color and depth of the paint.

The paint was then coated with a thick layer of 22ple VX3 paint coating

This was allowed to flash, and then was wiped away to a mirror finish

The car looked great afterwards. The paint was extremely glossy!

The majority of defects were removed leaving clear reflections and vibrant metallic flake.

Hopefully this car will remain in this amazing shape for a couple more years before we get to get our pads dirty on it again.

As always, thanks for reading!

Zach -
Incredible, beautiful, perfect, work here !
It is amazing what hard beaks can do to paintwork - wow -
Im surprised that after a re-paint there would be less and not more paint than what came originally on the car...
Congrats - you KILLED it !!!

WOW. Absolutely stunning work!! Thank you for taking the time to document the process, and to share it with us. Congrats - once again, your work amazes. The picture above is the type of thing that brings me back to this forum again and again.

Truly inspirational. Thank you.

Awesome results!

Any chances you recall what the PTG readings were. Getting a PTG this week just curious what you consider to be too thin.

Beautiful restoration
Now great clarity, gloss and reflection.

Someone a while back did a car that was attacked by wild turkeys too.

Amazing work! That 22ple looks REALLY good. The amount of depth is incredible. Keep it up!
Thanks! We are loving these new 22ple products... VX3 Signature can't be beat for the price, and VX Pro2 is also just stunning :)

Readings were around 80-110 microns in most areas. This isn't a huge concern to me given how little material is removed with this type of process, but assuming we will see this vehicle somewhat regularly, I do not want to go overboard. Clear coat preservation is always our #1 priority when correcting daily driven vehicles.

Great work!

I walked out once to a turkey pecking away at the chrome bumper on my truck. They get very angry at themselves.

Fantastic work! Those turkeys really have self image problems. I see you used both the Rupes 21 and the Boss 21. Do you find that there is a difference in the two or were there tow people working at the same time? Thanks.

Thanks guys!

I own both machines, but there were two of us working. My assistant prefers the Rupes... he likes the slow start and that it is a bit lighter feeling. I personally prefer the BOSS... it is a beast, maintains rotation much better, and just feels like raw power :) can't go wrong with either... they both perform excellently.

Beautiful work and an amazing recovery. I do predict another turkey attack though. It's weird how those turkeys see themselves and attack.
I work with a couple of guys that are the exact opposite. They see themselves in something shiny and keep looking and looking and looking .........

Thanks guys!

There is NO rotation with a DA unless it is a Flex which doesn't have a lot of rotation.
