Blower for drying

For the guys that use blowers to dry their cars with, what brand/specs do you recommend?



Would a lower HP gas blower work better than a "higher" HP electric blower? Anything to stay away from?

Get a gas blower. When you're trying to dry a car it is difficult/annoying to be running around in circles with an extension cord.



I use a Stihl BG 55. It's a great blower and never gave me any problems. Stihl is a good name and I really recommend getting one of their blowers.

You can also go on lowes.com or homedepot.com and look at what kind of blowers they have in store. Be sure to read the reviews though before you buy anything.

I personally use the electric unit that Chemical guys has .As I use it to blow out the residual water in the cracks and crevices. I would not go near my car with a gas unit only electric . Plus I think my neighbors would kill me using a gas unit at 7:00 am
 
I have both, gas and electric. The gas does yard work, the electric dries the car and does a bit of yard work.

A two speed Toro has worked very well for me and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for one. The top speed puts out somewhere around 200 mph, give or take a little.

The electric is a bit quieter, never runs out of fuel, and starts every time. :)

....I have a Craftsman shop vac that has a detachable blower (essentially it's the motor housing that sits on top of the tub that disconnects). It saves space in my garage and serves two purposes. :)
 
I use a Metropolitan Metro SideKick motorcycle dryer. It's about the size of a tea pot and weighs around 3 pounds. It comes with a nozzle and a fan blade nozzle.



Air Volume: 160MPH/85CFM

Air Speed: 18,00 FPM

HP Motor: 1.3

It can be found on internet stores. Costs around $80. Well worth it.

I've been debating using my shop vac. It just seems like even with a decent filter that it might spit out some particles from the tank unless it was spotless first. Have you been using it for a while?
 
I use a 8 HP Metro MasterBlaster, but you gotta' have 20 amp outlets or you'lll be tripping circuit breakers right and left. Take care!

....sorry, I should have clarified. The blower is detachable from the main housing/tub. The vacuum motor is housed in a divorced, self contained unit. It's this model:

16 gallon, 6.5 HP wet/dry vac & 265 mph blower. When you use the nozzle pictured (mounted on the tub behind the blower) it's really quite powerful.
 
I use a Weed Eater Barracuda. I like it because I remove the middle tube that way I can hold the blower in one hand and a MF towel in the other. I've modified a couple of other electric leaf blowers and this one has the most cfm and no mods necessary.

Well, if your shop vac is like mine, the only reason the tub is there is to catch anything you suck up. I'd just take the top off, and use it like that with a filter.
 
Thanks guys. I bought a black and decker that has 240mph speed the other night, and it did ok but not what I wanted. Plus I felt like I just left a metal concert when I was done. Sooo loud! It's an electric too. I'm not sure if i'm keeping it or not yet

same here (the one pictured below). i wasn't overly impressed with it as well, and like you mentioned it was loud. i returned it the next day and have been happy just using my 150mph craftsman electric blower (there wasn't that much of a dicernible difference to the 200+ blower IME) which does the job (not to mention light, good size power, and you can hold it in one hand with a waffle weave or microfiber towel in the other) and it costs less as well...
