I had a question that got lost in the cost/benefit analysis of the clay bar thread --

I have a Mother's clay bar but it seems awfully small. are you supposed to stretch or out a bit before using it?

Thanks

No need to stretch it out prior to using. The only time you'll stretch it is when the side you are using gets dirty and it's time to stretch and fold the dirty side together.

Break it in half....use one piece and stash the other away. This way if you drop it or something you've havent wasted the whole bar.

Hey Guys,

Well this is going to be the first real detailing kit i am going to buy, but before i pull the trigger just wanted some input on what you guys think..

I know you guys have probably seen dozen's of thread on this, but i have searched and found pretty much nothing directly to these items. Just want some opinions on these products

This is a Complete kit for detailing a car.

Wet-Ice over Fire Reference Shine Kit

This kit contains all the products I use to create my signature, Wet-Ice over Fire shine. I've designed this kit for vehicles three years old or newer with paint that is in "good" condition.

If you have an older vehicle or a vehicle with neglected or severely oxidized paint, it should be compounded after Step One, before polishing. I recommend Menzerna PO203 Power Finish used with the Orange Power Pad. These products are not included in this kit.

Each of the steps I go through are outlined in this article: Creating an Wet-Ice over Fire Shine.
At the heart of my system is the Porter Cable 7424XP Ultimate Detailing Machine which comes with a flexible, hook-and-loop, backing plate that allows easy pad changes. I use this machine to polish and apply the final sealant. The machine is used to apply products. I buff off residues by hand using a Microfiber Buffing Cloth (included in this kit.)

Step One - Remove paint contamination and create a smooth paint surface.
Paint contamination can be felt as a "rough or gritty" texture on the paint's surface and can lead to tiny rust spots. This contamination can not be removed by washing, waxing and/or polishing. I start with our BLACKFIRE PolyClay II Kit to QUICKLY and SAFELY remove surface contamination and make gritty, rough and bumpy paint smooth as glass.

This kit includes one, 8 oz. bar of PolyClay, a 16 oz. spray bottle of Clay Lubricant, two Microfiber Wipe Cloths and instructions.

Step Two - Polishing, the fiery shine begins here.
After creating a smooth paint surface with the clay bar and lubricant, I polish the finish to maximize surface gloss and visually reduce minor swirls and imperfections. Use BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish with the 6-1/2 inch, CCS White Polishing Pad.

Apply the polish by machine. Wipe off residues by hand using a Microfiber Wipe Cloth (included).

Step Three - Laying the proper foundation.

The foundation of Wet-Ice over Fire Shine is BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond, All Finish Paint Protection. This is a paint-friendly, water-based, sealant formulated with the latest generation of German, acrylic, super polymers.

Wet Diamond, All Finish Paint Protection creates a vibrant, high-energy, laser-sharp, base shine.

BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection is now super-charged with Polycharger!

No mixing or blending is required. The Polycharger technology is built-in! Polycharger boosts slickness and shine while extending the protection and durability. Polycharger does this by interlocking or cross-linking polymers to create a barrier of invisible amour with tremendous strength.

Wet Diamond, All Finish Paint Protection is applied by machine with a 6-1/2 inch, CCS, Gold, Super Soft Finishing Pad. Allow a haze to form and buff to a brilliant shine by hand using a Perfect Shine Buffing Cloth (included). This coat needs to cure for eight hours

Putting Wet-Ice over the Fire.

Wet-Ice over Fire Shine is a liquid wetness that ripples on the surface while still allowing the depth and energy of the paint to radiate through. You've already created the fire by polishing and sealing with a coat of Wet Diamond, All Finish Paint Protection. The ice topping is two coats of BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun, Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax.

BFMidnightSunWax.jpg

This one-of-a-kind wax is specifically designed to be used on top of All Finish Paint Protection. It creates a rippling liquidity on the surface and enhances the illusion of depth. When two coats of Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax are applied over All Finish Paint Protection, the resulting shine is wetness over energy, Wet-Ice over Fire!

Midnight Sun Paste Wax is buffed off "wet" before the wax fully dries. I like to wipe a thin layer of wax over 1/4 to 1/3 of the car (i.e. hood and 2 fenders) then go back and buff to a bright shine. It wipes on like butter and buffs off easily with a Microfiber cloth. When one area is done, wax and buff the next area until the entire vehicle has a deep, rich shine.

The average vehicle can be waxed in 20 minutes or less.

For touch-ups, we've included a spray bottle of BLACKFIRE Deep Gloss Spray Sealant. Bird droppings and insect smear... no problem. Just spray and wipe and in one step you've removed the contamination and left a bright, protective, BLACKFIRE shine.

This spray contains the same super polymers found in All Finish Paint Protection and BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun Paste Wax.

Use after washing or anytime to restore that ?just detailed?, wet-look sparkle.

Customer comments: "I just tried the Wet-Ice over Fire method on my 2004 Honda and I love the look. My car looks like a moving waterfall! Great products! I used the Porter Cable 7424 for the very first time so even an amateur can make their car look great. I love the idea of using one brand to do everything. I'm so happy with the results that I have been telling everyone. BLACKFIRE is what I'm going to be using on my car from now on."

I love that kit. I have a Black Mustang GT, If you follow the instruction they give it is a great look. I used to use P21S which I love for the ease of use and the great shine. I tried the Blackfire products. They are easier to use then P21S. I sell Porsches and have started recomending the Wet Fire over Ice Kit to all my clients. The couple who have bought so far love it. It is a great kit.

That's great to hear, even more that you have a Black car which in my opinion the hardest color to keep in mint condition.

Cannot go wrong with anything listed there. Now pull the trigger......

After these reviews i will be pulling the trigger:biggrin:

The PCXP is perfect for a beginner to detailing. I was always afraid of polishers. This machine is great. It is part of the reference kit that I bought for $295 I believe, Easy to use. Follow the instruction on Properautocares website.

Hi, I would get everything in the kit, except the wax. I personally think the sealant is all you will ever need. It is the only thing I use and I bought the wax too.

The Wet Diamond is the best LSP I've ever seen. It doesnt need a carnuba topper. In fact I think the carnuba topper takes away the crystal clear finish and even some the the slickness the Wet Diamond gives. If you find that you want a little less clarity and a warmer "milkier" shine then you can always buy the Midnight sun after.

And, as always, the LSP means nothing if you havent polished the car properly. You can put the whole bottle of Wet Diamond on a finish that is not ready for LSP and it wont make a bit of difference.

Patience, creativity and understanding the science of making your finish perfect will make you proud of the car you detailed. You will be so happy with these products. And I have no vested interest in pushing them. I just know for sure you will be happy.

Oh by the way, the microfiber towels that come with this kit are Outstanding! Just do yourself a favor, wash them first. The Wet diamond sealant creates an incredible amount of static electricity. A brand new microfiber will shed some fiber and the fiber will "stick" to the paint. I just takes away from the finish. JD
