Blackfire or FMJ?

I've been reading up on FMJ and it sounds real good. I was just wondering how it compares to Blackfire? E.G. Shine, durability, slickness. I already have Blackfire, but I am curious about FMJ also.

fmj hands down. Blackfire is very nice but I have just made the switch and could not be any happier. I have a post in the click and brag section "My Audi Detail" and you can see the results

I like Blackfire but it does smear if you use alittle bit to much. FMJ however is a breeze to use and gives a great shine with depth. Check out CMA's website under the FMJ product page there is a picture of an Audi that I used FMJ on. It shows the shine and depth I'm talking about.

I'd have to ditto detailbarn's experience . . . BF looks good, but it's hard to get the car looking perfect when removing the residue, as it tends to smear. I used about 1/4 oz. to cover the car, and let it dry almost two hours, and still got smears. The first wash took care of that, but I found the durability to be mediocre.

FMJ is much easier to use, IMO, and while the initial tight beads and slickness both faded to some extent after the first few washes, it settled down to medium-sized lazy beads and moderate slickness (enough to make washing relatively easy) that lasted for quite a while.

I keep meaning to give BF another try, but smears are my #1 pet peeve when dealing with LSPs. I suppose I should either use it or trade it; it's been on my shelf since shortly after the release of BFII.

I'm tempted to go back to blackfire after 2 years of using different sealants (not including FMJ). Some people like it, some don't. If it works for you, it will give you good results. If it doesn't, you will be mad. It's a risk with taking Blackfire.

Please forgive my ingnorance but what does FMJ stand for?

FMJ stands for "Full Molecular Jacket"

The product name is Menzerna FMJ. Just in case you don't know, it's a synthetic wax.:)

FMJ is one of the easiest-to-use LSP products that I own. It goes on easy & comes off even easier ... it's like buffing AIR.

Don't let the applicator get wet (bead of sweat, trickle of water from behind trim) 'cause it'll streak but it's easy to fix with a bit more FMJ on a dry applicator. I've had great success applying with a MF brick-type applicator but others like foam app's, it's a matter of personal preference.

I just ordered some of the new Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield, which was the missing piece-of-the-puzzle in the Menzerna line so you may want to look into ordering some of taht along with the FMJ.

You'll be pleased with FMJ.

Mayby I should clarify. I have Blackfire II. I have never tried original Blackfire, so I can't comment on that, but I have no problems with Blackfire II. When I first used it, all I think was WOW! I had no problems with smearing and it seemed super slick. Could FMJ actually be slicker? I'm always looking for something better.:D

I know you're just jerking my chain but I didn't know another way to describe the MF applicator that CMA includes with the Menzerna "party pack".

If I just said MF applicator someone may think I'm referring to a folded MF towel and, for the various comments I've seen about the MF "brick shaped" applicators, I find them easy to hold & use. Also, I don't agree with the comments about them absorbing too much product, I've never had that problem 'cause the product seems to stay on the surface of the applicator.

The foam applicators that others seem to like absorb paste wax easily so I'd assume they'd absorb a LSP like FMJ even easier but, like I said, it's a matter of personal preference.

Use what you like & use it often.

I should clarify, too . . . all my experience is with BFII. I can see where I confused the issue a bit with how I worded my first post.

Never used Blackfire, but I would find it hard to believe that anything would be easier. As someone said, "it's like buffing air". Wonder what is with all of the FMJ discussions lately, maybe the new pricing.:D Here is an Accord I did the other day. The pics don't really do it justice, but close!
