Blackfire Midnight Sun first impressions

Bunky

Detailing Gnosis
I picked up the smaller jar of Blackfire Midnight Sun during the last AG sale. I finally applied it this past weekend. I have not had a chance to take pics.

Car/paint: Lincoln MKZ Dark Blue Pearl Metallic (my DD so use many on this)

This was applied over 1 week old Menz. Power Lock

Usage notes:

1. Smell - nice mild scent (not especially fruity or other intentional added scent)

2. Consistency - slightly soft cake

3. Ease of removal from jar- easy. Mine was in a similar size jar as the Fuzion mini

4. Ease of application - Very easy. applied with a UDM 1.0 LC Red pad, just two light rubs against pad could do almost the entire hood.

5. Ease of removal - Very easy. Instructions say apply then remove immediately without hazing. Of course the first panel has more applied but no issues with removing even when over applied. Easy clean up from crevices, emblems.

6. Trim stain - Did not seem to dry "white" like some waxes/sealants so I think trim friendly (have been known to get on trim)

7. Looks - leaves a clean, glossy look as opposed to bright with sealants(more coated than natural paint). Flake does not blaze in sun like with sealants. Darkens paint slightly (less flake pop?) with nice rich glow. Some hiding ability.

Very elegant finish.

8. Slickness - good but less slick than the Powerlock.

9. Dust attraction - does not seem to attract dust like Power Lock did

Overall - Very nice. I plan to try again on top of BFWD.

Nice review! I have found that Midnight Sun will become slicker after a while. Not Wet Diamond slick but better than the initial wipe off feeling.

Bunky great review, hope you dont mind me using your format, I too got this on sale and applied it last night. I agree with you but had some opinions on some points.

2. Consistency - slightly soft cake, Mine was harder, but I am comparing against megs paste wax.

3. Ease of removal from jar- easy. Mine was in a similar size jar as the Fuzion mini. I used the the applicator that it came with, which was excellent, but I dropped it:wall so had to use the jewelling pad to finish, so this kinda became a challenge

8. Slickness - good but less slick than the Powerlock. Agree its good but the BFWD is much slicker.

Overall - ITs a great wax, I was suprised how little was used from the 3oz jar to do the whole car.

I've used mine once on my F-150 Super Crew, One coat on wifes Passat and two coats on my Mustang, and barely made a dent in small jar.

Hey Al,

This is a great review of a very nice wax. I like how you touched on all the important points which easily answers any question the reader may have.

I agree with your assessment and conclusions.

I've used this wax alone and it produces a gorgeous gloss especially over a freshly polished finish. While it's durability is less that Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant it makes up for in in warmth and depth.

Where I find Blackfire Midnight Sun really excels when applied over a coat of Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant...

I have used BFWD on two cars recently. My black Nissan 350Z and my 1967 Nova. Both were prepped with CG Blacklight. I was very impressed with the wax. Super easy to use and left awesome reflections. It's a winner for sure.

I am definitely a fan of BFMS. I do find that in my garage it takes about 2-3 hours after application to get all of its glossiness or about the same outdoors in the sun.

Thanks guys...I've been using RELOAD, BFCS and it's WG sister for a while now and really love the ease of application. These spray sealants are really tough to beat imo. Especially at the end of a long day compounding and polishing a car. However I was fishing through my supply cabinet and found a tin of FK1000 which I applied by machine last weekend. Gave my white paint a warm glow compared to the other products I've been using and was very easy to remove. So I started thinking about other paste wax products out there, hence my MS questions. Also I use FG400 & SF4000 for compounding & polishing but haven't tried Powerlock which would keep my entire process in the Menzerna system (as Mike P would like to say.) I don't believe that's mandatory but there could be some synergy to doing so.

In the end for me it will be a trade off between ease of use and looks. Besides, with the spray sealants it's so easy to apply that I can do it monthly so protection is not an issue. If I was only washing the car and then applying the paste wax (and wasn't running the DA for 6-8 hrs prior), it would be a no brainer. But that generally is not the case. Appreciate your feedback & thanks.
