Wow! This feedback is great. I want to thank all of you for taking the time to evaluate the new All Finish Paint Protectant. We really tried to push the envelope of what we could do with this formula to improve every aspect of its performance. We would tweak the formula in the lab, run out and try it on a car and then go back and try a slightly different balance. To improve one performance aspect usually results in a trade off in another aspect. The trick is to find that magic balance where everything comes together. Once we think we have it, the next and most important step is to get it into the hands of enthusiasts and get their reaction. Your criticisms are valuable and welcome. Through your feedback, we continue to push the limits of car care technology.
In answer to your many questions:
We did not add anything to the basic formula. All we did was adjust the balance of the polymers being used. Some of these changes were extremely small, in the parts per million category.
BLACKFIRE is still water based. All of the polymers in BLACKFIRE are water soluble except for one which is oil based. We had to include a very small amount of an odorless mineral spirit to mix this polymer with the other ingredients. Technically the formula is an oil-in-water emulsion but we could legally advertise it as water-based if we wanted to. This is a very paint friendly formula making it great for historic, collector and exotic automobiles of high value.
There is no fragrance in the product. Better fragrances are oil-based and we didn’t want to add any additional solvents. Whatever smell it has is the combined smell of the raw ingredients.
Taking stain out of black trim...Wow! We didn’t even test the product for this. There are no solvent cleaners in the formula so we’re not sure how this is happening!
Hard to buff off...you’re probably using too much product. All Finish Paint Protection has a very high percentage of active ingredients. While the formula is expensive, a little goes a long way. A Nickel size amount really will cover an entire hood. Our goal was to give a cost-per-application in the same range as less expensive products. Applying too much product does make it hard to buff off because it wants to bond with itself. Be sure and use a dry applicator. One of the polymers repels water, making the product resistant to detergents and acid rain. If you use a damp applicator or have some droplets of water on the surface, it can make buffing more difficult.
This product wants to stick to just about anything. You can use it directly on the paint or over any polish or one-step, cleaner/protectant like Klasse All-In-One. About the only thing it will not stick to is carnauba wax.
Again, thank you for your comments. I’m looking forward to your long term results.
