Can someone explain the proper steps to polish and wax a car using a machine buffer. If you could also suggest products, both machines and polishes/wax.

Also can you explain the process(ie do you just remove the polish with the machine, or put it on 2)

Any help would be appeciated.

thanks

How to polish a car - if you have the correct applicator pad and polish product then read this link, it'll save me from typing the same thing:

http://autopia-carport.com/forum/showthread.php3?threadid=8080

Most of the time if you apply the polish and work it into the paint the right way it is really easy to remove. I prefer to remove anything by hand now, I used to used the buffer to get large sections like my doors, hood and roof but it doesn't really save that much time and I like to be extra careful.

There are many threat/Posts here to read about using a machine and several products youcan use
heres one

Technique is very important and using which pad with which product and speed to use it at....Look for "Porter Cable"posts
and "Machine"
Also David has a book that we all recommend to read first....its on this site, the first few chapters are free, if you buy it..it helps support this forum

The owner recently traded up his '05 CTS-V (which I detailed two years ago) for this used '06 model, and as you can see the paint needed a "little" love in order to bring it back to life. ;)

I had hoped to keep this job two a two step correction, however there were far to many deep RIDS which were taking too long to remove so I opted to bust out the rotary and wool pads.

Correction Process:

-M105 via rotary and Solo wool pad
-M105 via DA and Meguiar's MF cutting pads (finished down very well)
-106fa via DA and tangerine LC Hydro pads

Coating Process:
-Foam bath with OPC and CGCW to remove all polishing oils
-IPA wipe-down
-Opti-Coat(Guard) applied with supplied yellow foam applicator to all paint, wheels, trim, and lights. (8cc used)

Polishing aggressively around gas doors can be tricky! By using some fine line 3M tape I'm able to protect the edges during the heavy compounding while still getting very close to them....much better than using 3/4" masking tape. ;)

This is after the first two steps....look how nicely M105 finished down on the MF pads! :)

VERY, VERY NICE Chad!!!
That was an unbelievable transformation. Hammered to stunning.
How do you like using the Opti Guard? Any issues with high spots?
Thanks for sharing with us.

I like it a lot Barry! I've found you have to knock them down pretty fast though as it starts to set up quick. I feel I do get better with each car I do.

FYI, I just ordered up an airbrush last night and I want to try spraying it on. Anthony was very helpful too as he's done it this way a LOT! ;)

that paint looks like glass rasky. super turnaround on the caddy. i have a jet black car that i wanna put the opti coat 2.0 on. with the cure time on the 2.0 you think its safe to use outdoors with all the pollen right now. i'm worried about the pollen getting in the coating before it cures. whats your opinion

I wouldn't want to apply OC or any wax/sealant outside for that matter. I honestly don't know how the mobile guys deal with all the stuff blowing around in the air. :-?

If it's a very calm day you will probably be fine, but I'd still suggest doing it indoors.

Superlative work as usual. I couldn't see the difference between your pic of the finish after MF/105 and the one after Opti-Guard. The finish after MF/105 looked LSP ready. Can I assume it's because computer pics can't show everything?

A little off subject, but since you did use Opti-Guard: Would claying remove Opti-Guard? Also, is Opti-Guard the professional version of Opti-Coat? I seem to have forgotten already.:out:

Thanks guys! :)

There was some very faint micro marring after the M105/MF step, but it would be hard to see in pics.

Claying should not remove the coating...I clayed my car once last fall. ;)

Yes. They changed the name of the pro version to Opti-Guard.

Sweet job and ride! I am glad to see that my place isn't the only one piled up with bottles! Sorry man, that's the price you pay when you take a pic in that clear of paint!

Hey Chad,

Which polishing compound do you feel has more cut with Meguiars DA MF pad. The M105 or d300 polishing compound?

I am getting ready to order D300 soon. :)

Also, why did you opt for M105 instead of D300?

Excellent work Chad!

Thanks Bryan! :)

Great job Chad! Muscleman

Thanks Chris! ;)

LOL! Yeah, I tend to get lazy about putting things away when I work. I have it all neat and organized the next day though. ;)

The M105 will have a little more cut but the D300 is more user friendly.

I went with M105 because I was about out of D300 and it was just working so well on this paint. ;)

Outstanding!! No other word for this. And on a dark car too!

Best,

Jose

Thanks Jose! :)
